Senior API Platform Software Engineer
Fulltime
Hybrid – Knoxville, TN | Columbia, SC | Lafayette, LA | Birmingham, AL

Position Overview
Seeking a Senior API Platform Software Engineer to build and enhance backend services, APIs, and API platform capabilities within a highly distributed, AWS-based financial services environment.
This is a hands-on role requiring strong experience with Java and/or Python, REST APIs, Microservices, AWS, Apigee, API Security, and DevOps.
Key Responsibilities

  • Develop secure and scalable RESTful APIs, backend services, and microservices.
  • Support the complete API lifecycle including implementation, versioning, security, performance, monitoring, and production support.
  • Develop applications using Java and/or Python.
  • Build and support API management solutions using Apigee.
  • Implement API security using OAuth 2.0, JWT, mTLS, and API key management.
  • Work with AWS cloud services and containerized platforms.
  • Support CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, monitoring, and observability.
  • Troubleshoot API, cloud, application, and performance issues.
  • Collaborate with Product, DevOps, Security, and Architecture teams.
Must-Have Skills
  • 5+ years of hands-on development experience with Java 8–21 and/or Python.
  • Strong experience with RESTful APIs, backend services, and microservices.
  • Hands-on AWS experience including:
    • EC2
    • ECS
    • EKS
    • Lambda
    • S3
    • IAM
    • Route 53
    • CloudWatch
  • Strong experience with Apigee OPDK, Apigee X, or Apigee Hybrid.
  • Strong understanding of API lifecycle, versioning, throttling, traffic management, security, and analytics.
  • API security experience with OAuth 2.0, JWT, mTLS, and API Keys.
  • Knowledge of OpenAPI / Swagger.
  • Experience with GitHub or GitLab, Terraform, and CI/CD.
  • Working knowledge of JavaScript / TypeScript.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, ECS, and EKS.
  • Monitoring experience with OpenTelemetry, Splunk, and CloudWatch.
  • Knowledge of load balancing, caching, high availability, resiliency, and disaster recovery.
  • Experience with relational and NoSQL databases.
  • Agile/Scrum experience.
Nice-to-Have Skills
  • GraphQL.
  • AWS CloudFormation.
