Senior Technical Writer

Job Type: Contract

Location: 100% Remote

Duration: 1+ Year

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Technical Writer to develop, maintain, and enhance high-quality IT documentation supporting enterprise technology operations. The ideal candidate will collaborate with technical teams and subject matter experts to produce clear, accurate, and user-friendly documentation for IT infrastructure, service management, helpdesk, networking, and data center environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, update, and maintain:
    • Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
    • Technical procedures
    • Operational runbooks
    • Knowledge base articles
    • Quick reference guides
  • Create documentation supporting IT Helpdesk, End-User Support, Data Center Operations, and Network Operations.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts, engineers, and service owners to gather technical information and translate complex concepts into clear, concise documentation.
  • Review and update existing documentation to ensure accuracy, consistency, completeness, and alignment with current IT environments.
  • Organize documentation into searchable knowledge repositories that improve onboarding, operational efficiency, issue resolution, and knowledge sharing.
  • Develop and maintain documentation standards, templates, naming conventions, and quality assurance processes.
  • Ensure documentation is accessible, well-structured, and suitable for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Manage documentation lifecycle activities, including version control, reviews, approvals, and retirement of outdated content.
  • Participate in meetings with IT teams to document new processes, procedures, and operational changes.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience as a Technical Writer supporting enterprise IT environments.
  • Experience documenting IT operations, infrastructure, helpdesk, service management, networking, or data center environments.
  • Strong ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, user-friendly documentation.
  • Experience creating SOPs, runbooks, technical procedures, knowledge base articles, and operational documentation.
  • Hands-on experience with documentation platforms, knowledge management systems, and collaboration tools.
  • Familiarity with documentation governance, version control, review workflows, and content management best practices.
  • Understanding of IT Service Management (ITSM), ticketing systems, and operational support processes.
  • Excellent writing, editing, interviewing, communication, and stakeholder collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively with distributed teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Higher Education IT environments.
  • Knowledge of Information Security documentation and governance.
  • Experience documenting enterprise IT infrastructure, operational processes, and technology services.
