AWS Engineer
Summary
This role supports platform operations focusing on keeping AWS cloud infrastructure stable, preventing operational outages, and modernizing platform deployment workflows. The team needs an engineer who can actively investigate system issues, ask pointed technical questions, and independently deliver root-cause resolutions or architectural improvements.
Most of the week will involve writing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, configuring GitHub Actions workflows with YAML, and conducting hands-on troubleshooting across AWS environments. Success in this position means taking complete ownership of infrastructure tickets, maintaining clear technical documentation, and communicating effectively with both internal engineering teams and external client stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Build, maintain, and provision AWS cloud infrastructure using Terraform for Infrastructure as Code.
- Author and update YAML configurations to support GitHub Actions CI/CD automation workflows.
- Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve active platform and infrastructure performance issues.
- Write clear technical documentation, architectural notes, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Communicate directly with client stakeholders to explain technical issues, status, and resolution plans.
- Proactively identify system failure points and implement infrastructure improvements to prevent downtime.
Required Experience
- 5+ years of hands-on experience as a Cloud Engineer focused on AWS infrastructure and platform operations.
- Extensive experience writing, maintaining, and deploying Terraform modules for Infrastructure as Code.
- Working knowledge of YAML syntax for configuring GitHub Actions workflows and platform pipelines.
- Strong investigative troubleshooting skills with the ability to explain root causes and resolution steps.
- Proven experience writing technical documentation, system diagrams, or Standard Operating Procedures.
- Ability to work onsite in Kansas City 4 days per week (hybrid schedule with 1 day WFH).
Preferred Experience
- Hands-on experience writing automation scripts using BASH or Python.
- Practical experience utilizing AI tools to assist with syntax generation while understanding underlying configurations.
- Prior experience managing web platform infrastructure (e.g., Nginx, Apache, or web CMS hosting environments).
This is a 6-month hybrid Contract (with the potential for extensions) opportunity with our Kansas City, MO, client.
