Job Title AI Engineer

Work Location: Hartford, CT

Workplace Type: Remote

 

Required Qualifications (Must-Haves):

·        Python development in a web environment that handles application logic and web APIs.

·        Experience building applications powered by large language models (LLMs) such as Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, or OpenAI GPT.

·        Professional experience related to comparing and selecting AI models, such as A/B testing two models on a task.

·        Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written, are required.

·        Ability to work with confidential and regulated financial and examination data.

·        Ability to participate in web/video meetings as needed while remote.

 

Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Haves):

·        Experience deploying applications and supporting services in cloud environments.

·        Deployed and maintained services on Microsoft Azure, including App Service, Storage, Key Vault, and related services.

·        Experience using Git-based source control and pull-request workflows.

·        Previous experience working directly with a state government agency in AI development.

 

Experience Level:

·        Hands-on, applied technical role supporting routine to moderately complex systems, applications, cloud services, and AI-enabled software development.

·        Experience taking a user request from intake through deployment to production with appropriate guidance.

·        Job Summary: This is a hands-on, applied technical role supporting the ongoing operation, modernization, and extension of AI-enabled applications for the Department of Banking and other state agencies. The successful candidate will work primarily in Python within modern web frameworks such as FastAPI, deploy and maintain services on Microsoft Azure, and use Git-based source control and pull-request workflows. The role operates in an AI-assisted software development environment where modern coding assistants are used for writing, reviewing, and debugging code. The candidate will also collaborate with the Connecticut AI Lab, a centralized DAS team supporting the design, development, and deployment of AI-enabled tools across state agencies.
