Senior AWS Cloud Developer (100% Remote) min 15+ Years exp

About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior AWS Cloud Developer to support large-scale cloud initiatives for Southwest Airlines. This is a 100% hands-on development role, not an architecture or management position. While technical leads and architects are welcome to apply, they must be actively coding and contributing to development on a daily basis.

This role focuses on modernizing applications through an AWS cloud migration from on-premises environments, developing new cloud-native solutions in Python, and supporting existing Java-based applications.

Required Technical Skills

• Strong hands-on experience with AWS
• Extensive experience with AWS Lambda (mandatory)
• Python development (5+ years preferred)
• Previous Java development experience
• Terraform and Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
• AWS Step Functions
• API Development (RESTful APIs)
• Apache Kafka
• Amazon CloudWatch
• System Design and distributed systems knowledge
• Strong cloud engineering and cloud-native application development experience

Required Qualifications

• 15+ years of software development experience (14+ years minimum preferred)
• Extensive hands-on AWS cloud engineering experience
• Strong experience building and deploying serverless applications
• Deep expertise with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
• Excellent communication skills with proven follow-through
• Strategic thinker with the ability to solve complex technical challenges
• AWS Certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect Professional or AWS DevOps Engineer Professional are highly preferred

Preferred Background

• Previous Java developer who has transitioned into Python development
• Significant recent experience developing in AWS (Azure experience alone is not sufficient)
• Experience supporting enterprise-scale cloud migration projects
• At least 10 years of professional experience working in the United States is strongly preferred
