Job Description

IT Systems Engineer
Wiltshire College & University Centre Trowbridge Campus, with up to 2 days remote home working

Are you an experienced IT professional with a background in infrastructure, servers, operating systems and technical services and are looking for an opportunity to develop your career? As an IT Systems Engineer at Wiltshire College & University Centre, you will be responsible for the implementation, support and continuous improvement of the College's core IT infrastructure, helping to ensure systems remain secure, resilient and fit for purpose.

Working across servers, networking, Microsoft 365, cloud services, cyber security and business-critical systems, you will troubleshoot complex technical issues, deliver infrastructure projects and contribute to service enhancements that make a real difference to staff and students. You will work closely with colleagues, suppliers and stakeholders to maintain high service standards, support digital transformation initiatives and help shape the future development of the College's technology environment.

?? Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time 37 hours per week, 52 weeks per year

?? Hybrid Working: Trowbridge Campus, with up to 2 days remote home working

What Youll Do

Monitor, maintain, and optimise server hardware, software, operating systems, and IT infrastructure
Troubleshoot server and infrastructure issues, analyse system logs, and identify root causes
Monitor system performance and proactively resolve potential issues
Maintain security through updates, patches, backups, and access controls
Support the reliability, availability, and recovery of critical IT systems
Work with the wider IT team to maintain secure, up-to-date systems
Support infrastructure upgrades, projects, and new technologies
Maintain technical documentation and system records

What Youll Bring

Level 3 qualification or above in IT, Computing, Networking, or a related discipline

Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Server+, AZ-800, or similar, or a willingness to work towards achieving this qualification
Experience in IT infrastructure, systems administration, server support, or a similar role
Good knowledge of Windows Server and Microsoft technologies
Understanding of networking, security, backups, and system monitoring
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Good communication and organisational skills
A proactive approach and willingness to learn and develop
