Billing Specialist w/ VACCN Experience (Remote, Contract)
Our client, a premier healthcare services provider, is seeking an experienced Billing Specialist on a part-time basis with direct knowledge of Optum Veterans Affairs Community Care Network (VACCN) billing. The successful applicant must understand the VA Community Care claims process and be capable of investigating, correcting and recovering unpaid or denied behavioral healthcare claims.

Start: August 2026
Position Responsibilities:
· Prepare and submit claims through Optum VACCN and associated billing platforms.
· Investigate denied, rejected, delayed and underpaid claims.
· Review VA referrals, authorization numbers, dates of service and supporting documentation.
· Correct and resubmit claims within applicable filing and appeal deadlines.
· Track claims from initial submission through final payment.
· Reconcile payments, denials and outstanding balances.
· Communicate directly with Optum, VA Community Care, claims administrators and provider-support representatives.
· Prepare reconsiderations, appeals and supporting claim documentation.
· Maintain a detailed claims-recovery log and provide regular progress reports.
· Work with clinical and administrative personnel to obtain required records without compromising confidentiality.
Required Experience:
· Optum VACCN billing and claims management.
· VA Community Care Network claims.
· VA referrals, consults and authorization requirements.
· Denied-claim investigation, correction and recovery.
· Behavioral health or residential treatment billing.
· Electronic claims submission and payment reconciliation.
· Experience with Waystar, TriWest, VA Community Care, Mission Act or COMPACT Act claims is strongly preferred.
