Job Description

Job Title: Data Center Infrastructure Engineering

Location: Charlotte, NC (Hybrid - 3 Days onsite every week)/ Local Candidates Only

Contract to Hire - W2

Job Description

We are looking for someone who can help design, maintain, improve, and expand the physical infrastructure of a data center not the IT hardware or software running inside it. The ideal candidate understands critical power and cooling systems, capacity management, infrastructure projects, and operational resiliency.

The strongest candidates will have backgrounds in:

Data Center Engineering

Critical Facilities Engineering

Mission Critical Infrastructure

Colocation or Hyperscale Data Centers

Electrical or Mechanical Engineering supporting data center environments

Key areas of experience we are seeking include:

Critical electrical infrastructure (utility service, switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution)

Cooling and mechanical systems supporting data centers

Capacity planning for power, space, and cooling

Infrastructure resiliency, redundancy, and failover analysis

Data center construction, upgrades, and commissioning activities

Root cause analysis of infrastructure failures

DCIM, monitoring, and engineering metrics

Working with construction teams, utilities, vendors, and facility stakeholders

Required Qualifications

Strong working knowledge of data center critical infrastructure, including mechanical, electrical, and/or structured cabling systems, with an engineering or technical discipline background.

Experience supporting budgets and cost controls for data center projects and infrastructure operations, including exposure to capital projects and vendor cost management (but not full enterprise P&L ownership).

Demonstrated experience partnering with Real Estate, Critical Systems, Construction, and Technology teams to deliver infrastructure projects and operational outcomes.

Proven ability to lead or significantly contribute to data center infrastructure engineering and design activities, including interpreting design standards, supporting technical contract requirements, and identifying implementation risks.

Experience delivering technical solutions that meet defined availability, redundancy, quality, and budget requirements.

Track record of leading or managing projects with measurable impact on infrastructure reliability, efficiency, or standardization within a region, portfolio, or functional domain.

Experience applying established engineering standards, operational procedures, and best practices, and contributing to continuous process improvements within the organization.

Professional experience working within a large, complex, and preferably global organization, with demonstrated ability to collaborate across teams and functions.

Experience managing or working closely with geographically distributed and culturally diverse teams.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical and operational information clearly to peers and management.

Ability to operate effectively within a matrixed organizational environment and balance competing priorities.

Practical problemsolving mindset with the ability to think creatively while remaining grounded in operational reality.

Demonstrated experience leading teams and fostering a culture of accountability, performance, and continuous improvement.

Experience defining, tracking, and using operational and engineering metrics to support datadriven decision making.

Awareness of industry standards, guidelines, and emerging practices in data center and critical systems engineering (active industry leadership not required).

Desired Qualifications

Typically 5+ years of experience in Data Center, Critical Systems, or related infrastructure engineering disciplines.

Demonstrated experience supporting data center engineering, construction, upgrades, or integration activities within a large or multisite environment.

Experience leading teams or workstreams and collaborating with crossfunctional partners, with the ability to influence peers, project stakeholders, and vendors.

Working knowledge of risk assessment and availability concepts for data centers or colocation environments; ability to contribute to availability modeling and resiliency planning.

Solid understanding of data center technologies and associated monitoring, environmental, and infrastructure management tools (e.g., power, cooling, telemetry, DCIM).

Strong analytical, organizational, and decisionmaking skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and drive issues to resolution.

Experience compiling and contributing to site assessments, infrastructure health evaluations, capital projects, and facility upgrade planning.

Ability to interpret, apply, and refine minimum technical requirements and standards to support evolving operational and business needs.

Working knowledge of rootcause failure analysis related to critical systems equipment, including participation in incident investigations and corrective action development.

Experience coordinating with local utility providers to understand site power, cooling, and service constraints.

Familiarity working with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) to support compliance with applicable federal, state, and local codes and regulations.

Exposure to or experience supporting commissioning activities, including testing and validation of mechanical, electrical, fire suppression, and control systems.

Experience supporting data center operations, including utilization, efficiency, resiliency, and failover analysis of critical systems.

Foundational understanding of network design and layout as it relates to data center infrastructure and physical deployment.
