About the Role
Our client, a major national retail brand with a large-scale e-commerce and in-store technology footprint, is seeking a Front-End Identity Integration Developer to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity to work on high-visibility authentication and account-management experiences used across a massive digital application portfolio, partnering closely with Identity and Access Engineering, Cyber Defense, Compliance, Cyber Architecture, and vendor teams.

Job Description
This role will be responsible for integrating a third-party identity platform with custom-built web applications, implementing secure, intuitive authentication, authorization, and account-management experiences at scale. The ideal candidate combines strong modern front-end engineering skills with practical experience implementing customer or workforce identity capabilities using industry-standard authentication and authorization protocols. You will translate identity requirements and vendor capabilities into reusable, accessible, well-tested application components that provide a consistent experience across the organization's application portfolio.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Integrate the selected identity platform into custom-built web applications using vendor SDKs, APIs, hosted components, and authentication services.
  • Develop reusable front-end components, libraries, hooks, and integration patterns that can be adopted across multiple applications.
  • Implement authentication and authorization flows using standards such as OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SAML, JSON Web Tokens, and PKCE.
  • Integrate identity workflows with existing application routing, state management, backend APIs, and session-management patterns.
  • Ensure authentication experiences meet enterprise standards for usability, responsive design, accessibility, performance, branding, and internationalization.
  • Collaborate with Cyber Architecture and engineering teams to implement secure token handling, session controls, error management, and protection against common web application vulnerabilities.
  • Partner with the identity vendor to understand product capabilities, integration requirements, release changes, defects, and recommended implementation patterns.
  • Work with product owners and user-experience designers to convert business requirements and design specifications into production-ready functionality.
  • Create automated unit, integration, and end-to-end tests for identity-related workflows.
  • Troubleshoot authentication failures across browser, application, network, API, and vendor-platform boundaries.
  • Implement logging, telemetry, and monitoring needed to measure authentication success rates, failures, latency, and user abandonment.
  • Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, sprint planning, backlog refinement, and production-readiness reviews.
  • Produce technical documentation, implementation guidance, and onboarding materials for other application teams.
  • Support phased deployments, feature-flag strategies, production validation, incident resolution, and post-launch optimization.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the scalability, maintainability, security, and consistency of identity integrations across the application portfolio.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:

  • Three to five years of professional front-end software development experience.
  • Demonstrated experience building production web applications using React and TypeScript.
  • Experience integrating front-end applications with RESTful APIs, SDKs, and backend services.
  • Working knowledge of authentication and authorization concepts, including OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, access tokens, ID tokens, refresh tokens, cookies, and browser sessions.
  • Experience implementing secure authentication flows in single-page or server-rendered web applications.
  • Strong understanding of browser security concepts, including Cross-Origin Resource Sharing (CORS), Content Security Policy (CSP), Cross-Site Scripting (XSS), Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF), secure cookies, and browser storage risks.
  • Experience with automated testing frameworks and tools such as Jest, React Testing Library, Cypress, Playwright, or equivalent technologies.
  • Familiarity with source control, pull-request workflows, CI/CD, and automated quality controls.
  • Experience diagnosing issues using browser development tools, application logs, API traces, and monitoring platforms.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, architects, security professionals, product managers, designers, and external vendors.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Direct experience integrating a commercial identity platform such as Ping Identity, Okta/Auth0, Microsoft Entra External ID, ForgeRock, Transmit Security, or a comparable platform.
  • Experience with customer identity and access management (CIAM), workforce identity, or business-to-business identity solutions.
  • Experience developing shared component libraries, design-system components, or reusable platform capabilities.
  • Knowledge of role-based and attribute-based access-control models.
  • Experience with identity federation, social identity providers, step-up authentication, adaptive authentication, or risk-based authentication.
  • Familiarity with Next.js, Node.js, GraphQL, micro-frontends, or module federation.
  • Experience working with cloud platforms and cloud-native application architectures.
  • Familiarity with observability tools such as Splunk, Datadog, Dynatrace, New Relic, Grafana, or equivalent technologies.
  • Experience implementing applications in regulated, high-volume, retail, consumer, or enterprise environments.
