Lead Voice & Platform Engineer Cloud Telephony Operations

Take ownership of core voice architecture and infrastructure delivery for an established Australian cloud communications platform provider.

The Role Working alongside executive leadership, you will own the technical operation, reliability, and stability of a multi-tenant voice and communications platform. Your core mission is to transition the platform into a predictable, highly reliable state by systematically addressing technical debt, resolving root causes of recurring issues, and implementing disciplined deployment and monitoring practices. Beyond incident resolution, you will guide architecture decisions, set engineering standards, and functional direction for a dedicated onshore and offshore development team.

The Tech Stack & Environment

• Core Voice: Asterisk, PJSIP, database-backed dialplans, CDR/CEL, SIP trunking, call routing

• Routing & Media: Kamailio (SIP routing, registrar, SBC functions), RTPEngine, WebRTC

• Diagnostics: Packet level SIP, SDP, RTP/RTCP analysis, NAT traversal, codec issues

• Infrastructure & Security: Debian Linux, Azure Virtual Machines & Networking, MySQL (replication/backups), TLS/SRTP, SIP fraud prevention

• Automation & Scripting: Python, JavaScript / TypeScript, APIs

What You'll Bring

• Proven background operating and maintaining production Asterisk and SIP voice platforms at scale

• Deep packet level diagnostic capability using tools like Wireshark or Homer to solve complex RTP and media path issues

• Hands-on system administration experience across Linux (Debian preferred), Azure VMs, and MySQL databases

• Ability to provide technical direction to developers, setting clear engineering and release management standards

• Existing experience with Kamailio and RTPEngine is highly desirable; otherwise, a strong appetite to master these technologies during structured knowledge transfer
