Mechanical Engineer

Location: Blyth, North East England

Project: £10bn Hyperscale Data Centre Campus

Our client is a leading international main contractor delivering some of Europe's most advanced hyperscale and mission-critical data centre developments. They are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join the delivery team on a landmark £10bn hyperscale data centre campus in Blyth, North East England.

This flagship development, one of the largest data centre campuses in Europe, will be delivered over the next decade and represents one of the UK's most significant infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in the delivery of complex mechanical systems, ensuring works are executed safely, to the highest quality standards and in line with programme requirements.

Working closely with Project Managers, MEP Construction Managers, subcontractors, design teams and client representatives, you will coordinate mechanical installation activities, manage technical interfaces and support the successful delivery of critical mechanical infrastructure through to commissioning and handover.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the delivery of mechanical engineering works across the project
  • Coordinate mechanical subcontractors and specialist installation teams
  • Review drawings, technical specifications and installation methodologies
  • Ensure mechanical works are delivered safely, on programme and to the highest quality standards
  • Coordinate interfaces between mechanical, electrical, CSA and commissioning teams
  • Monitor installation progress and support recovery plans where required
  • Manage RFIs, technical queries and design coordination activities
  • Oversee inspections, testing, quality assurance and system readiness
  • Support procurement, material management and construction planning
  • Attend coordination meetings and provide regular progress updates
  • Identify construction risks and implement practical engineering solutions
  • Support commissioning, integrated systems testing and final project handover

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Engineer on major construction projects
  • Previous experience delivering hyperscale data centres, mission-critical facilities, pharmaceutical, industrial or large-scale commercial developments
  • Strong understanding of HVAC, chilled water, pipework, public health and mechanical building services
  • Experience managing mechanical subcontractors within multidisciplinary project environments
  • Good knowledge of construction sequencing, QA/QC and commissioning processes
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation
  • Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills
  • Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
  • CSCS qualification
  • Experience working within complex, fast-paced construction environments
