Mission Planning Engineer (Contract)
Start: ASAP
Duration: 6-12 months
Location: 3 days per week in Surrey
*candidates require an SC clearance or must be willing to undergo background checks*
We're seeking a Mission Planning Engineer to join a Space Operations team, supporting the planning and execution of daily satellite missions. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a live operational environment, generating mission plans, coordinating satellite tasking and ensuring the successful delivery of customer requirements across a constellation of satellites.
Key Responsibilities
- Generate and maintain mission operation plans for multiple satellite collects each day.
- Schedule activities within spacecraft operational constraints, including power, memory and thermal limitations.
- Monitor tasking requests, track mission progress and report on planned versus actual data collection.
- Support the day-to-day planning and execution of spacecraft operations.
- Raise and manage operational issues through the support process.
- Work closely with Spacecraft Operations, Systems Engineering and other cross-functional teams to ensure mission objectives are delivered efficiently.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of mission planning tools and operational processes.
Skills & Experience
- Degree in Engineering, Space Systems or another relevant STEM discipline.
- Experience or knowledge of spacecraft operations, mission planning or systems engineering.
- Understanding of satellite operations and mission scheduling principles.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritise work in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Experience with JSON, relational databases and AWS is desirable.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary and remote teams.
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
