Position Overview

Russell Tobin is partnering with a leading financial technology organization to hire a Senior Software Engineer for its Banking-as-a-Service team.

This individual will support partner onboarding and ongoing enhancements to a scalable BaaS platform. The Senior Software Engineer will design, develop, and maintain secure, high-performance systems that enable embedded financial services across a growing partner ecosystem.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in fintech, API and microservices development, Microsoft technologies, and Azure cloud services. This role also requires technical leadership experience and the ability to collaborate across product, architecture, and engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop APIs and microservices that support partner onboarding and BaaS integrations.
  • Collaborate with product managers, architects, and engineering teams to define technical requirements and deliver scalable, reliable solutions.
  • Promote engineering excellence through code reviews, mentoring, automated testing, CI/CD practices, and observability.
  • Ensure applications meet established service-level agreements and contribute to monitoring and alerting capabilities.
  • Participate in incident response, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis to improve system reliability.
  • Create architecture and technical design documentation to support solution analysis and decision-making.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies for applicability, feasibility, and potential adoption.
  • Refactor and extend existing codebases to resolve defects and deliver new features.
  • Build durable, flexible systems by prioritizing configurability over one-off customization.
  • Support secure development practices and compliance requirements within a regulated financial services environment.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • At least 1 year of experience serving in a technical leadership, lead engineering, or mentoring capacity.
  • Demonstrated experience developing secure, standards-compliant applications across multiple platforms.
  • Strong hands-on experience with C#, .NET, and SQL.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Azure and Azure-native services, including:
    • Azure API Management
    • Azure SQL
    • Azure Cosmos DB
    • Azure Key Vault
  • Experience with containerization technologies and distributed caching frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of RESTful API design, OAuth 2.0, and OpenAPI specifications.
  • Experience with event-driven and microservices-based architecture patterns.
  • Familiarity with Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Hubs, or similar messaging technologies.
  • Hands-on experience implementing and using observability platforms and dashboards, such as Datadog or Grafana.
  • Advanced knowledge of Git, DevOps practices, Agile/Scrum methodologies, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Understanding of security and compliance standards relevant to financial services, including PCI DSS and SOC 2.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, iterative environment supporting mission-critical, revenue-generating, customer-facing applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience within fintech, banking, payments, or embedded finance.
  • Experience supporting Banking-as-a-Service platforms.
  • Familiarity with partner onboarding workflows, third-party integrations, and SLA management.
  • Experience with highly regulated, high-availability technology environments.
  • Contributions to open-source projects, technical publications, or engineering communities.
