Senior Accountant
Location: Washington, DC
Work Arrangement: Hybrid – 3 days onsite / 2 days remote
Duration: 1 year, with potential extensions
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to support accounting operations for Single and Multifamily Programs. The ideal candidate will have strong accounting, reconciliation,
financial close, and Excel skills, preferably with experience in real estate,
mortgage, bond, or investment accounting.
Key Responsibilities
- Review, analyze, allocate, an record monthly accounting transactions.
- Perform general ledger, bank, escrow, cash, and investment reconciliations.
- Reconcile GL balances to mortgage, bond, and draw schedules.
- Prepare journal entries, accruals, and maintain trial balances.
- Track and maintain Single Family program loan records.
- Record loan funding, draws, repayments, write-offs, reimbursements, fees, and related transactions.
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing activities.
- Assist with year-end audits and financial reporting.
- Support mortgage and investment-related accounting activities.
- Work with internal teams to ensure timely funding, reporting, and resolution of discrepancies.
- Perform other accounting duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent experience.
- 5–7 years of accounting/finance experience.
- Strong GL and reconciliation experience.
- Experience with month-end/year-end close and accruals.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data-analysis skills.
- Excellent communication and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Experience
- Multifamily or real estate accounting
- Mortgage/loan accounting Bond accounting
- Investment/fund accounting Trustee or escrow account reconciliation Real estate finance or housing finance experience
Location Requirement
Candidates should be local to the
Washington, DC area and able to work 3 days onsite in Washington, DC and
2 days remotely. Candidates must also be comfortable with the possibility
of working onsite 5 days per week if required.
