Placement Year Student – Mechanical Engineering

Location: Alton, HampshireContract: 12-Month PlacementHours: 40 Hours per Week

About the Opportunity

We are looking for an enthusiastic Mechanical Engineering Placement Student to join our Engineering team for a 12-month industrial placement. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience working on real engineering projects while developing your CAD and design skills within a supportive and experienced team.

The successful candidate will assist with updating and remodelling an established product range using Autodesk Inventor, working from existing SolidWorks models and legacy engineering drawings. Full support and guidance will be provided, offering valuable exposure to engineering design processes and best practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and remodel mechanical components using Autodesk Inventor.
  • Convert and interpret existing design information from SolidWorks files and historical engineering drawings.
  • Produce accurate manufacturing drawings in accordance with company standards.
  • Develop sub-assemblies and complete assembly models from remodelled components.
  • Create assembly drawings for customer documentation and workshop use.
  • Support design verification activities to ensure component accuracy, fit and function.
  • Work closely with engineers to maintain design quality and consistency across projects.

About You

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Studying towards a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline and seeking a placement year.
  • Familiar with 3D CAD software, ideally Autodesk Inventor or a similar package.
  • Comfortable reading and understanding engineering drawings.
  • Interested in mechanical products, components and assemblies.
  • Detail-oriented and able to accurately reproduce existing designs.
  • Eager to learn new systems, processes and engineering standards.
  • Organised, proactive and able to work effectively within a team.
