Data Scientist Base salary up to $130,000 + Super

Sydney, CBD NSW Full-time On-site (5 days/week in the office/onsite)

Join a High-Performing Fixed Income Investment Team

Our client is a rapidly growing fixed income fund manager with a team of approximately 60 professionals, including an 11-person Data Science team, building sophisticated quantitative research and data science capabilities.

They are looking for an exceptional Data Scientist to join their Sydney-based team. This is a research and engineering-intensive role where you'll work alongside Portfolio Managers and the Head of Data Science to develop models, build production-grade systems, and solve complex quantitative problems that directly influence investment decisions.

The Role
  • Develop statistical and machine learning models for fixed income markets.
  • Build, test and improve quantitative research pipelines.
  • Work with large, complex datasets from multiple sources.
  • Back-test investment models and benchmark research against leading academic literature.
  • Productionise research into scalable, maintainable systems.
  • Produce intuitive data visualisations and clearly communicate technical findings.
  • Collaborate closely with the Data Science team and Portfolio Managers to drive innovation.

No prior financial markets experience is required-our client is looking for exceptional quantitative thinkers.

About You
  • A Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a highly quantitative Engineering discipline.
  • 1-2 years of commercial experience in a data-related role (graduate applications will not be considered).
  • Nice to have: Outstanding academic achievement, ideally including:
  • 99+ ATAR
  • 85+ WAM
  • Strong statistical modelling and data analysis capabilities.
  • Experience using R, Python, SQL or similar data analysis tools (experience with the R tidyverse ecosystem is highly regarded).
  • Strong software engineering practices when contributing to shared codebases.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A collaborative mindset, intellectual curiosity, and a strong work ethic.
