Join our dedicated Security team within the Technology Division, part of the broader Technology, Space & Distribution Group. This team plays a critical role in safeguarding Auto & General's digital assets and ensuring robust, secure operations.

The Role

As a Platform Engineer, you will be instrumental in designing, implementing, and enhancing tooling and processes to automate software deployment and Infrastructure as Code across Auto & General. You'll operate at the intersection of Infrastructure & IT Operations and Development teams, driving continuous innovation to deliver reliable applications and resilient infrastructure. A core focus will be to build a scalable and secure cloud platform foundation for our Confluent (Apache Kafka) data streaming platform.

• Consistently contribute to the design and implementation of automation foundation, standards and practices for the Cloud Services team drawing on knowledge of DevOps/Cloud industry practices and frameworks.
• Review and provide guidance on code from DevOps engineers to ensure that all quality and compliance controls and guidelines are consistently followed.
• Drive and support your product/end-to-end teams in developing design projects.
• Guide and build capability with Data Engineers within Data Analytics team through the sharing of knowledge and experience, active training, coaching, and mentoring.
• Consult with project and non-technical stakeholders to identify requirements, risks, and reports to achieve a business outcome.
• Collaborate with Data engineering Teams to align and influence DevOps/MLOps practices that enable faster delivery and effective maintenance of cloud infrastructure.
• Contribute to the Data Science community of practice through knowledge sharing and fostering engagement and collaboration about importance of cloud infrastructure.
• Drive implementation of DevOps/Cloud automated solutions in project delivery.
• Collaborate directly with Application Development Teams to align and influence DevOps practices that enable faster delivery and effective maintenance of cloud infrastructure.
• Contribute to the GCP cloud upliftment program which aims to enhance the cloud environment with growing business needs.
• Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders through regular communication to manage agreed outcomes, concerns, risks, and issues.
• Contribute to the Infrastructure Department strategy and the Cloud Services roadmap.
• Engage and lead production support in a timely manner and ensure a long-term resolution.
• Provide support and troubleshooting of cloud services and infrastructure as and when required.

What Experience You'll Bring

• Demonstrated experience working with Confluent or Apache Kafka platforms.
• Strong understanding of Confluent infrastructure components like Connectors, Topics, Service Accounts etc.
• Strong AI-first mindset with the ability to adapt to AI-native development practices.
• Resilient and comfortable in influencing and communicating with all stakeholders about DevOps practice and subsequent culture shifts.
• Passionate about DevOps/Cloud/Automation and have a keen interest to solve complex problems in a systematic approach.
• Takes ownership of a situation by being inclusive, collaborative with a positive attitude, and knows how to iterate through a problem quickly.
• Enjoys collaborating closely with DevOps peers and delivery teams to drive continuous improvements/deployments.
• Mindset for continuous learning and adapting to the ever-changing technology landscape.
• Excellent people and communication capabilities to collaborate with all levels of stakeholders to drive a customer-first approach and ensure successful business outcomes from a cloud services aspect.
• Experience with git and implementing branching strategy, and release process.
• Experience in Observability in complex distributed systems (New Relic).
• Experiences implementing security DevOps practices.
• Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate well within a team.
• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and decompose complex problems down into sprint deliverables in projects.
• Experience working on GCP/AWS public cloud environment.
• Expertise in building and designing cloud platform/solution that enables rapid delivery of high-quality software.
• Proficiency with end-to-end automation with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) (Terraform preferred).
• Experience developing high-quality code in Golang, Python, Bash shell.
• Experience working with a data engineering/delivery team.
• Experience with building and maintaining sophisticated CI/CD Pipelines & automation with tools like Gitlab preferred.
• Proficiency in driving DevOps function in software design and development.
