Service Engineer
Our client is a specialist engineering organisation providing advanced electrical and electromechanical systems to the defence sector. Supporting critical equipment installed onboard vessels, submarines and other marine platforms, they have built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality engineering solutions, technical expertise and exceptional customer service.
About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Service Engineer to work on a wide range of electrical and electromechanical systems installed onboard ships and submarines.
The role is split approximately 40% site-based travel and 60% office-based support activities, offering a varied mix of hands-on engineering work and technical support. You will be responsible for commissioning new equipment, fault finding, maintenance and surveys.
Regular travel throughout the UK will be required, with occasional overseas assignments. Typical travel may involve working away from home for up to 2-3 weeks at a time. When not attending customer sites, you will support the business through technical documentation, engineering support activities and continuous product learning.
Key Responsibilities of the Service Engineer
- Commission, service and maintain electrical and electromechanical equipment installed onboard ships and submarines.
- Diagnose and rectify faults on installed systems.
- Provide technical support to customers via telephone and email.
- Produce detailed service reports and engineering recommendations following site visits.
- Deliver customer training on the operation and maintenance of equipment.
- Liaise with engineering, production and sales teams to provide product feedback and support future improvements.
- Develop and maintain technical support documentation and manuals.
Requirements of the Service Engineer
- Minimum 5 years' experience fault finding, diagnosing and maintaining electrical or electromechanical equipment.
- Strong understanding of: Motor control systems, Power distribution, Transformers and Electrical fault finding.
- Ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Comfortable working in confined spaces and challenging environments.
- Willingness to travel extensively across the UK and occasionally overseas.
- Recognised electrical engineering qualification.
- Significant industry experience (5 years) in a relevant engineering environment.
