Systems Engineer II - Satellite Ground Systems

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 2-5 years of experience in Systems Engineering, Satellite Ground Systems, or a related engineering discipline.
• U.S. Citizenship required.
• Experience decomposing business and operational requirements into technical system solutions.
• Experience with systems integration, verification, validation, and acceptance testing.
• Experience creating technical documentation, architectural documentation, and API documentation.
• Knowledge of software design principles and systems engineering methodologies.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting operational satellite ground systems, ground segment architectures, or space systems.
• Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools and methodologies.
• Experience testing and integrating complex mission-critical systems.
• Knowledge of Linux, Windows, Docker, virtualization, and scripting technologies.
• Experience working with Artificial Intelligence (AI) software development lifecycle tools and practices.
• Strong troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams.
• Experience developing technical training materials and operational procedures.

About the Job

As a Systems Engineer II, you will join the Rapid Access Fastlane Engineering team and contribute to the full systems engineering lifecycle for satellite ground system capabilities. You will collaborate with software engineers, systems engineers, program teams, and stakeholders to design, document, integrate, test, and deploy scalable mission solutions. You will help transform high-level business requirements into technical architectures and ensure solutions meet operational needs, quality standards, and customer expectations.

You will play a key role in supporting the Direct Access Program by delivering reliable ground system capabilities that enable mission success for customers around the world.
Responsibilities

• Translate high-level business and mission requirements into detailed technical system and software solutions.
• Develop and maintain system architecture, interface definitions, technical specifications, and supporting documentation.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to design, implement, integrate, and deploy new satellite ground system capabilities.
• Support system verification, validation, integration, and acceptance testing activities.
• Troubleshoot operational issues, perform root cause analysis, and coordinate resolution efforts with stakeholders and development teams.
• Contribute to MBSE activities, requirements management, and systems engineering best practices.
• Support operational ground system environments and ensure system performance, reliability, and maintainability.
• Create technical training materials, operational procedures, and user documentation.
• Build domain expertise and provide technical guidance across cross-functional teams.
• Contribute to AI-enabled engineering initiatives, tools, and software development processes where applicable.
