Job Description
Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks a Weapon Control System Architect to design and guide advanced shipboard weapon control solutions for national security missions. You will define architectures, requirements, and interfaces, lead MBSE efforts, and oversee integration of combat system elements to ensure robust, safe, and effective performance at sea. Collaborating with cross-disciplinary experts, you'll prototype, analyze, and validate concepts, contribute to technical roadmaps, and brief sponsors. Responsibilities
- Design and document architectures for shipboard weapon control systems and interfaces with combat systems
- Develop and manage system requirements, use cases, and interface definitions using MBSE methods and tools
- Lead integration, test planning, and evaluation of weapon control functions in lab and shipboard-representative environments
- Perform analysis, modeling, and simulation to assess performance, safety, and robustness of control solutions
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and sponsors to refine mission needs and transition prototypes to operational systems
- Prepare and deliver technical reports, design reviews, and sponsor briefings; mentor junior engineers
