ServiceNow Architect & Administrator

Location: Frisco, TX (Onsite role)

Duration: 12+ Months

Rate: Negotiable

Role Summary A seasoned ServiceNow Architect / Administrator is responsible for the strategic design, governance, and handson administration of the ServiceNow platform across the enterprise. This role ensures the platform is scalable, secure, aligned with business strategy, and optimized for longterm maintainability. The architect partners with business leaders, IT stakeholders, and development teams to translate organizational needs into robust, usercentric ServiceNow solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Platform Architecture & Strategy

  • Define and maintain the enterprise-wide ServiceNow architecture, ensuring alignment with business goals, IT strategy, and industry best practices.
  • Lead platform roadmap development, including module adoption, upgrade planning, and technical governance.
  • Establish and enforce design standards, naming conventions, and configuration management policies.

Solution Design & Development Oversight

  • Translate complex business requirements into scalable, maintainable ServiceNow solutions.
  • Architect workflows, data models, integrations, and automation across ITSM, ITOM, CMDB, HRSD, CSM, and other modules.
  • Review and approve technical designs, ensuring adherence to platform best practices and avoiding unnecessary customization.

Administration & Platform Operations

  • Perform advanced administration: user management, ACLs, roles, UI policies, business rules, catalog items, and flow designer automation.
  • Maintain platform health through instance security, performance tuning, monitoring, and upgrade readiness.
  • Manage the CMDB, ensuring data integrity, reconciliation logic, and discovery/agent configuration.

Integration & Automation

  • Architect and oversee integrations using MID Servers, REST/SOAP APIs, IntegrationHub, and enterprise middleware.
  • Ensure integrations follow secure patterns, proper error handling, and long-term maintainability.

Governance & Quality Assurance

  • Lead ServiceNow governance boards, ensuring consistent standards across teams and projects.
  • Establish code review processes, testing frameworks, and deployment pipelines (ATF, CI/CD).
  • Maintain documentation for architecture, configurations, and operational procedures.

Stakeholder Engagement & Leadership

  • Serve as the primary ServiceNow subject matter expert for executives, IT leadership, and cross-functional teams.
  • Provide mentorship to administrators, developers, and process owners.
  • Communicate platform capabilities, constraints, and strategic opportunities in clear, business-friendly language.

Required Skills & Experience

Technical Expertise

  • 5-7+ years of hands-on ServiceNow experience, with deep knowledge of ITSM, CMDB, Discovery, Service Catalog, Flow Designer, and IntegrationHub.
  • Strong proficiency in JavaScript, Glide API, REST/SOAP, JSON, and data modeling.
  • Experience architecting solutions across multiple ServiceNow modules and domains.
  • Solid understanding of ITIL, enterprise architecture principles, and workflow automation.

Certifications (Typical for Senior-Level)

  • ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA)
  • Certified Implementation Specialist (CIS)in one or more modules
  • Certified Application Developer (CAD)
  • Certified Technical Architect (CTA)or progress toward it (highly preferred)
