Job Description

Mechanical Engineer – Industrial & Traction Systems About the Role An international, market-leading engineering organisation operating in highly specialized industrial sectors is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to support its engineering function.

This role perfectly blends hands-on engineering expertise with project and customer coordination, playing a key part in the overhaul, testing, and lifecycle management of complex, heavy-duty mechanical drivelines and connecting systems.

You will work closely with cross-functional internal teams - including Sales, Production, and Quality - as well as external clients, driving technical investigations while ensuring products meet strict performance, quality, and contract requirements.

This is a delivery-focused role requiring robust technical judgement, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to act as the primary technical face to the customer. Key Responsibilities Lead Technical Support & Investigations:

Provide hands-on engineering support for overhaul projects, including condition assessments, job pack creation, and conducting detailed fault, warranty, and failure investigations. Manage Engineering Documentation: Prepare, review, compile, and approve technical reports, method statements, material comparisons, and component overhaul instructions.

Drive Engineering Changes: Create and manage engineering change proposals, production permit requests, and concessions to conclusion, ensuring accurate Bill of Materials (BoM) management. Cross-Functional Collaboration:

Partner with internal departments such as Purchasing, Shop Floor, Quality, and Projects to support daily operations and uphold high engineering standards. Client Engagement:

Act as the leading technical representative in client meetings, managing customer communications regarding failure investigations, and providing trusted on-site technical support. Quality & Safety Compliance:

Ensure all work, technical documentation, and product specifications align with company procedures and ISO 9001:2015 quality systems. Requirements Education: Minimum of an HNC/HND (or equivalent qualification) in a mechanically biased engineering discipline. Professional Experience:

A minimum of 6 years of proven engineering experience with a well-balanced background in general mechanical engineering, testing, and technical process writing. Industry Background: Solid knowledge of heavily regulated sectors, ranging from Mobility (Rail and Marine) to Power, Oil, and Gas or heavy industrial sectors. Technical Knowledge:

Strong understanding of engineering first principles, mechanical driveline systems (such as gearboxes, shafts, couplings, or coolers), and BS 8888 technical documentation standards. Operational Awareness: Good familiarity with overhaul production processes and the impact of technical decisions on commercial contracts. Core Attributes:

Highly proactive, agile, and resilient with excellent technical communication skills and a genuine enthusiasm for solving complex mechanical problems. What’s Offered Competitive salary dependent on engineering experience. Highly stable career path within a globally recognized, tier-one industrial engineering business.

Opportunity to work on high-value, complex heavy-machinery and green-energy transport systems. Collaborative workspace with strong scope for independent task management and technical ownership
