Job Description
Job Title: Senior Information System Security Officer (ISSO) Location: Huntsville, AL Experience Level: Senior (8+ Years) Education: Bachelor's Degree (B.S. or B.A.) Required Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Senior Information System Security Officer (ISSO) to support the implementation, oversight, and maintenance of cybersecurity controls for enterprise information systems. The ideal candidate will serve as the principal security advisor to Information System Owners (ISOs), Business Process Owners, and Information System Security Managers (ISSMs), ensuring compliance with DoD cybersecurity requirements throughout the system lifecycle. The successful candidate will have experience supporting the Authority to Operate (ATO) process, developing cybersecurity documentation, managing vulnerability remediation efforts, and ensuring systems remain compliant with applicable security policies and standards. Key Responsibilities
Serve as the primary security advisor to the Information System Owner (ISO), Business Process Owner, CISO, and ISSM on all information system security matters.
Implement, maintain, and oversee security controls in accordance with DoD cybersecurity policies and RMF requirements.
Support the Authority to Operate (ATO) accreditation and certification process.
Review, develop, and maintain ATO documentation, including:
System Security Plans (SSPs)
Information System Contingency Plans (ISCPs)
Security artifacts and supporting documentation
Conduct network and system self-inspections to ensure compliance with security requirements.
Develop and manage Plans of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms) based on vulnerability assessment findings.
Enter and maintain vulnerability and compliance data within the designated system of record.
Provide recommendations to improve the effectiveness of information system security.
Coordinate with technical teams, customers, and stakeholders to ensure security requirements are implemented and maintained.
Assist in protecting information systems from unauthorized access, modification, disclosure, or destruction.
Prepare reports regarding security posture and recommend improvements to security processes and procedures.
Required Qualifications
8+ years of experience supporting Information Assurance, Cybersecurity, or Information System Security Officer (ISSO) functions.
Experience implementing, overseeing, and maintaining security configurations, practices, and procedures for information systems.
Experience supporting the Risk Management Framework (RMF) and Authority to Operate (ATO) lifecycle.
Experience developing and maintaining cybersecurity documentation.
Experience creating and managing POA&Ms from vulnerability assessment data.
Experience conducting security compliance reviews and self-inspections.
Experience with Xacta.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to work effectively with technical teams, management, and government customers.
Preferred Skills
Experience supporting DoD cybersecurity programs.
Familiarity with vulnerability management processes.
Experience supporting continuous monitoring initiatives.
Knowledge of information system contingency planning and security compliance documentation.
Education
Bachelor's Degree (B.S. or B.A.) in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
Required Certifications
CISSP OR
CompTIA Security+ (or equivalent DoD 8570/8140 approved certification)
