Quick Overview
Job Description
We build the infrastructure the internet actually runs on.
Most people don't think about what happens when a video call connects Sydney to Singapore in under 50 milliseconds, or how a cloud file reaches a data centre on the other side of the world in the blink of an eye. The answer is almost always an undersea cable - and building those cables is exactly what SUBCO does.
We build, own and operate high-capacity submarine cable systems linking Australia to Asia, the Middle East, and beyond. The internet's backbone isn't in the cloud. It's on the ocean floor - and we put it there.
You'll work on things that matter at scale.
SUBCO is an Australian-owned scaleup at an inflection point. We're not a startup finding its feet, and we're not a slow-moving incumbent. We're a fast-growing team of specialists doing infrastructure work that shapes how entire regions connect to the global digital economy.
About the roleWe are looking for an experienced Platform Engineer with a strong background in hybrid environments to join our Digital Services team. This role is responsible for the design, deployment, management, and support of critical infrastructure systems-including servers, virtualization platforms, networking, storage, and compute resources hosted within our on-site data centres or co-located facilities and cloud platforms.
Key Responsibilities- Deploy, and manage hybrid infrastructure aligned with Subco's network technology platforms, ensuring scalability, resilience, and compliance using IaC and orchestration tools.

- Troubleshoot and resolve incidents impacting Subco's operational systems, collaborating closely with the NOC and network engineering teams, including participation in on-call rotation.
- Ensure backup and disaster recovery processes are in place and tested.
- Ensure security standards and access controls are aligned to security frameworks such as Essential 8 and ISM.
- Support audits, disaster recovery testing, and cyber-resilience initiatives critical for a trusted subsea operator.
- Work closely with security teams to ensure compliance with internal and external regulations.
- Lead or contribute to infrastructure projects and communicate technical concepts to stakeholders.
- Partner with network engineers, software developers, and operations teams to deliver infrastructure that supports automation, orchestration, and AI/analytics initiatives.
- Maintain detailed documentation of systems, configurations, and procedures.
- Proficient in virtualisation (VMware, Nutanix or similar), container platforms, and orchestration technologies.
- Skilled in designing, deploying, and managing AWS cloud infrastructure, hybrid environments, and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK).
- Strong Linux/Windows command-line, automation, and configuration management (Ansible, Puppet, PowerShell); experience with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins).
- Experience with modern identity management tools (EntraID, Active Directory)
