Emergency Water Tanker Filling & Discharge Operator
Ormesby
£13.45 per hour
Casual / As and When Required

About the RoleWe are looking for reliable and safety-conscious
Emergency Water Tanker Filling & Discharge Operators
to join our team on a casual, as-and-when-required basis. This role plays a vital part in supporting emergency water supply operations, ensuring the safe preparation, filling, and discharge of potable water tankers during planned and unplanned interruptions to water services.
You will be responsible for maintaining the highest standards of water hygiene, operational compliance, and health and safety while supporting the delivery of safe drinking water to our customers.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare designated hydrants for emergency water tanker filling and discharge operations. Carry out flushing, chlorination, and disinfection of hydrants, standpipes, hoses, fittings, and sampling equipment. Install standpipes, lay-flat hoses, and sampling equipment, ensuring all equipment is fully disinfected before use. Safely undertake chlorination and disinfection procedures, including the use of sodium hypochlorite in accordance with company procedures. Maintain strict hygiene controls to prevent contamination throughout all operations. Collect, label, and accurately record water quality samples in line with Standard Operating Procedures. Coordinate tanker movements and prepare vehicles for safe filling and discharge, ensuring safe site access and traffic management where required. Verify tanker security seals and documentation to ensure full compliance with operational and regulatory requirements. Complete pre-discharge inspections and authorise tanker unloading only when all hygiene and safety checks have been satisfied. Maintain accurate operational records and work in accordance with health, safety, environmental, and water quality regulations. Support emergency response activities to ensure the safe and reliable delivery of potable water.
Essential Requirements
Full, valid UK driving licence. National Water Hygiene (Blue Card) or willingness to obtain one before commencing the role. Understanding of water hygiene, disinfection, and contamination prevention. Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) accurately. Knowledge of water quality sampling and record-keeping processes. Strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental compliance. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with tanker drivers, operational teams, and site personnel. Ability to remain calm, organised, and work safely under pressure during emergency situations. Flexible approach to working hours, including availability to respond to emergency call-outs when required.
