Pipe Field Engineer

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Marine Engineering, or equivalent shipyard piping experience
  • 7+ years of shipyard new-build or major vessel modification experience with a focus on piping systems
  • 5+ years supporting piping construction, fabrication, or craft management
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD; ShipConstructor or similar marine software preferred
  • Strong knowledge of marine piping systems, fabrication, installation, and testing
  • Working knowledge of ABS and U.S. Coast Guard regulations
  • Ability to work effectively in an active shipyard environment and collaborate across engineering and production teams 

Must Haves

  • Develop and support piping build strategies from engineering through vessel completion
  • Create and maintain accurate as-built drawings, redlines, and field documentation
  • Coordinate piping routing while resolving interferences with structural, HVAC, and electrical systems
  • Provide technical guidance to production supervisors, foremen, and piping crews during installation and commissioning
  • Support material take-offs, procurement activities, pressure testing, inspections, and system turnover
  • Identify opportunities to improve construction sequencing, reduce rework, and enhance schedule performance
  • Ensure compliance with ABS, USCG, and quality standards throughout construction 

Preferred Background & Skills

  • Experience with commercial or government vessel construction
  • Background supporting complex marine mechanical systems including fuel, ballast, hydraulic, cooling, bilge, and auxiliary piping
  • Experience overseeing subcontractors and coordinating multiple trades
  • Strong field troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
  • Self-motivated, organized, and comfortable working independently in a fast-paced production environment
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to bridge engineering and operations teams
