Aptask Global Workforce (AGW) is seeking a Mechanical Designer for a contract position with a Global Professional Services Firm located in Portland, OR. This is a 9+ month contract opportunity.
At this level, designers take ownership of their designs, sometimes working independently on smaller projects or as a system lead on larger ones. The role involves collaborating directly with engineers to identify project goals, research code, and ensure cross-discipline coordination. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in building mechanical design systems for high-tech facilities and will be proficient in reviewing designs for a high degree of accuracy.

At this level, designers take ownership of their designs, sometimes working independently on smaller projects or as a system lead on larger ones. The role involves collaborating directly with engineers to identify project goals, research code, and ensure cross-discipline coordination. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in building mechanical design systems for high-tech facilities and will be proficient in reviewing designs for a high degree of accuracy.
Responsibilities:
- Create, coordinate, and publish project deliverables including drawings, details, models, and other documentation
- Perform design development under the guidance of senior designers and engineers
- Work with minimal supervision, reviewing the work of other designers and early-career engineers for accuracy
- Assist with engineering calculations under the guidance of a project engineer
- Plan and conduct work requiring judgment and creativity in the layout and design of systems conveyance and equipment
- Participate in code review and discussion
- Prepare deliverables for all project phases, including models, plans, flow diagrams, and P&IDs
- Attend and participate in internal and external mechanical design status meetings
- Coordinate designs and resolve conflicts between disciplines and existing field conditions
- Perform field surveys of existing conditions
- Respond to design, coordination, and information sharing requests in a timely manner
- Review and process submittal documents
Requirements:
- Associate's degree in Computer Drafting & Design, a similar course, or related work experience
- Minimum of 5 years of work experience
- Experience in building mechanical design systems in semiconductor or related high-tech facilities
- Extensive modeling and drafting experience using Revit and AutoCAD
- Strong working knowledge of relevant codes and standards
- Expertise in Navisworks for model review
- Deep knowledge of HVAC and related mechanical systems
