Job Description

Simkiss Group, now part of United Infrastructure, is a leading engineering solutions provider operating across the energy, utilities and infrastructure sectors. With over 25 years of experience and headquartered in Rochdale, Simkiss specialises in the design and build of control systems, control panels and switchgear, delivering installation, testing, commissioning and ongoing maintenance services predominantly within the utilities sector.

Following its recent acquisition by United Infrastructure, Simkiss is entering an exciting new phase of growth, strengthening its technical capabilities and expanding its ability to deliver increasingly complex, end-to-end solutions across critical national infrastructure projects.

As a Supervising Electrician, you will be responsible for the safe, efficient and high-quality delivery of Electrical & Instrumentation works across client sites. You will lead teams and subcontractors, ensuring work is completed safely, to the required quality standards and within agreed project deadlines.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Supervision & Installation – Supervise and undertake the installation of Electrical & Instrumentation systems on client sites.
  • Team Leadership – Lead and supervise team members and subcontractors, ensuring high standards of safety, quality and productivity are maintained.
  • Hazardous Area / CompEx – Carry out CompEx inspections for hazardous area installations and provide final sign-off where required.
  • Daily Coordination – Coordinate team members and subcontractors on a daily basis to ensure works progress efficiently and according to programme.
  • CDM Compliance – Provide daily CDM supervision and ensure all works are carried out in accordance with relevant requirements.
  • Project Delivery – Ensure installations are completed to agreed targets, deadlines and client requirements.
  • Commissioning & Handover – Ensure all commissioning documentation and paperwork is completed accurately and on schedule ahead of site handover.
  • Quality Assurance – Ensure company quality standards are consistently achieved and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Health & Safety – Ensure all site activities comply with company procedures, client requirements and applicable Health & Safety and CDM regulations.
  • Client Liaison – Maintain effective communication with clients, colleagues, subcontractors and other site personnel as required.
  • Qualified Electrician – City & Guilds, Apprenticeship, AM2 or equivalent.
  • City & Guilds 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
  • Inspection & Testing – City & Guilds 2391 or equivalent.
  • CCNSG.
  • SHEA Passport.
  • SCO1 & SCO2.
  • TEM 2, 3 & 4.
  • CompEx qualification.
  • Proven experience of leading small teams in a working supervisory role.

The successful candidate will ideally demonstrate:

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of Electrical & Instrumentation drawings and systems.
  • The ability to communicate confidently and professionally with clients at all levels.
  • Ability to travel at short notice, including long-distance travel.
  • A strong team-working approach.
  • Willingness to work overtime when required.
  • Willingness to work away from home, including Monday–Friday assignments.
  • Good awareness and understanding of Health & Safety regulations and site requirements.

Working Pattern

Although overtime is not guaranteed, average working hours are 50+ hours per week for approximately 10 months of the year.

The role involves significant travel and working away from home, with this expected to be approximately 80% of the year.
