Job Description
The role is for a Senior Substation Project Engineer who has mastered Journey-Level Engineer skills and responsibilities and is responsible for leading the engineering and design of complex projects.
The Senior Project Engineer applies extensive knowledge of engineering concepts, principles, and practices to resolve complex problems while working with only general direction.
Additional responsibilities include providing leadership, coaching, technical direction, knowledge transfer, and assistance to technical employees and teams. The Senior Project Engineer also delivers presentations, leads team meetings, and interprets industry practices and applicable codes.
This hybrid position requires working from a remote office and an assigned work location within the NorCal Utility Service Territory, based on business needs.
Job Responsibilities
• Manage large, complex projects and perform engineering analyses, studies, and develop conceptual designs.
• Lead, coach, direct, and assist technical employees and teams on technical issues; may serve as an engineering mentor.
• Assist in finalizing contract project specifications and the technical evaluation of contract project bids.
• Provide support to other departments on land, permitting, and legal issues.
• Resolve problems of complex scope using independent judgment and creative or non-standard engineering approaches.
• Independently plan work under general direction to achieve assigned objectives; work may be reviewed upon completion.
• Collaborate with contractors, vendors, local public agencies, clients, project team members, and company management.
• Provide technical direction to less experienced team members.
• Exchange technical information and solve problems with internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements
• Bachelor''s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited U.S. curriculum or an equivalent degree from outside the United States.
• Minimum of 8 years of cumulative experience in electrical engineering and design.
Desired Skill Sets
• Experience managing multiple large-scale, high-budget electric substation projects.
• Experience in substation engineering.
• Project management skills.
• Current California Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Location: Oakland, CA, Fresno, CA or West Sacramento, CA (Hybrid work schedule)
Employment Type: Contract 12+ months with potential for contract-to-hire
Pay Rate: $65–$85/hour
