Job Description

Job Title: Planner

Company: Principal Contractor

Project: Major Data Centre

Location: Surrey

Working arrangement: Hybrid working - Site & Home

Salary: Up to £90,000 (Freelance considered)

Start: ASAP

An established engineering contractor is looking for a Planner to join the team delivering the next phase of a major Data Centre campus in Surrey.

The completed first phase provides 19MW of IT capacity, with Phase Two now underway as part of a wider three-building campus planned to deliver approximately 55MW. The contractor delivered the full MEP & CSA design and build of Phase One, from RIBA Stage 3 through installation, commissioning and handover.

This is complex, technically challenging work delivered at Principal Contractor level. There is also a long-term pipeline of work in Surrey, potentially running through to at least 2032.

The Role:

You’ll take ownership of the project programme using Asta Powerproject, working closely with the project, design, commercial, procurement and site teams.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Developing, maintaining and updating the main project programme
  • Producing detailed construction programmes, short-term lookaheads and progress reports
  • Monitoring the critical path, key milestones and programme risks
  • Working with the delivery team and supply chain to accurately record site progress
  • Supporting programme submissions and reporting under an NEC4 contract
  • Reviewing delays, changes and compensation events for their potential programme impact
  • Helping the team develop recovery plans where required
  • Coordinating design, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover activities

The ideal candidate (Not all essential experience)

  • Strong experience using Asta
  • Previous experience working under NEC4 contracts
  • Planning experience within construction, engineering or major MEP projects
  • A good understanding of project sequencing, critical paths and programme risk
  • Data centre, mission-critical or technically complex project experience would be beneficial
  • Comfortable working predominantly on site in Surrey

The business has an integrated delivery model covering design, engineering, construction and commissioning. It also has a long-standing relationship with the end client dating back to 2008, providing stability and a strong pipeline beyond the current phase.
