Technical Lead - Node / AWS / TypeScript / AI Brisbane 150k - 160k + Super Hybrid Working

About the Company

Talenza has partnered with a global retail business looking for a Technical Lead to help shape a core customer platform. The business is investing heavily in technology and AI, with an established roadmap and opportunities to influence how its engineering teams work.

About the Role

You'll join a small engineering team responsible for a platform that brings customer information together across digital accounts, rewards programmes, retail stores and booking integrations.

We're looking for a software developer first and foremost, with strong AWS architecture experience and the ability to guide a team. You'll remain involved in writing Node, TypeScript and building services using AWS Lambda and event-driven messaging via SNS/SQS, with approximately 30-50% of your time spent coding.

Working closely with the architect, you'll turn upcoming work into practical technical designs, scope delivery and own technical decisions within the team. You'll bring experience designing serverless applications and APIs, considering scalability, resilience, security and cost, alongside infrastructure as code using AWS CDK and automated CI/CD pipelines.

You'll support and mentor engineers, help resolve technical challenges and explain architectural decisions and delivery trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders. The role suits someone who can bring a clear technical view, remain open to other perspectives and balance engineering quality with delivery priorities.

You'll also help the team adopt AI tools to improve how they develop and deliver software.

Skills and Experience

Strong software development background, with hands-on TypeScript experience and previous technical leadership responsibilities.
Deep practical experience with AWS architecture and serverless development, particularly Lambda and SNS/SQS.
Experience building APIs and integrations that move data between systems.
Ability to mentor engineers, scope technical work and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
Interest in applying AI tools within software engineering.
