Job Description

Senior Data Engineer - Edinburgh

I'm currently supporting a leading global financial services organization that is looking to hire experienced Senior Data Engineers to join a team delivering a strategic wealth management platform built on GBST Composer.

This is a hands-on engineering role focused on designing, building, and maintaining scalable data platforms, pipelines, and data products that enable analytics, reporting, and AI/ML solutions. You'll help ensure data is reliable, secure, performant, and accessible across the organisation, and contribute to the data strategy underpinning new GBST-based product features.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engineer data products that are stable, scalable, performant, testable and secure.
  • Apply endorsed technologies and common build patterns to minimise technical debt.
  • Adhere to group policies and frameworks for build and release.
  • Participate in design/implementation reviews and team ceremonies - plan, commit to clear goals, prioritise, and escalate impediments.
  • Identify opportunities to automate repetitive manual tasks and drive reuse.
  • Participate in technical communities to advance shared engineering capabilities.
  • Support incident root-cause analysis and promote strong application custodianship.
  • Mentor early-career engineers and support technical hiring via paired-programming interviews.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Experience working with or integrating into the GBST Composer platform.
  • Cloud Platforms: GCP (BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Pub/Sub, Cloud Run).
  • Data Engineering: SQL, Data Warehousing, Data Lakes, Data Modelling.
  • Streaming & Integration: Kafka, REST APIs, Microservices.
  • Google Cloud Storage (GCS) for building robust ETL/ELT pipelines, DataOps, CI/CD.
  • Visualization & Reporting: Power BI or similar BI tools.
  • Data Governance, Quality, and Security practices.
  • Hands-on experience with data formats such as JSON, ORC and CSV, with knowledge of schema design, partitioning and performance tuning in BigQuery.

Desirable Experience

  • Development experience on Google Cloud Platform.
  • Programming in Python and/or Scala.
  • Exposure to Data Vault, Data Factory, Data Governance, Data Quality, Data Integration, Master/Reference Data Management, Data Lake and Data Visualization.

Contract Details

  • Duration: 6 - 12 Months
  • Rate: £400 - £420 (day rate)
  • Location: Edinburgh (Minimum 2 days onsite)
  • Start Date: ASAP
