London (2/3 days per week onsite) Contract: 12 months with possible extension Rate: £600 - £650 inside IR35 Role Overview We are seeking an experienced Software Engineering professional with strong expertise in Python, C#/.NET, enterprise data platforms, and database technologies.

This role combines hands-on technical leadership with ownership of strategic technology initiatives supporting business-critical data and analytics capabilities.

Key Responsibilities Technical Leadership Lead the design and delivery of enterprise-grade software applications and data platforms using Python and C# (.NET).<br />Define solution architecture and engineering standards for scalable, resilient, and maintainable systems.<br />Act as a technical authority for software engineering, database design, and data platform initiatives.<br />Drive modernization of legacy applications and migration towards cloud-native architectures.<br />Review technical designs and code to ensure alignment with engineering standards and best practices.<br />Champion software quality, security, performance, and operational excellence.

Data Platform &amp; Solution Ownership Lead delivery of data integration, ETL/ELT, and analytics enablement solutions.<br />Oversee design and implementation of data models across operational, analytical, and reporting workloads.<br />Ensure alignment with enterprise data strategy, architecture standards, and governance frameworks.<br />Drive optimization of database performance, scalability, and data processing capabilities.<br />Collaborate with Data Engineering, BI, Analytics, and Architecture teams to deliver integrated solutions.

Stakeholder Management Partner with business stakeholders to understand strategic objectives and translate them into technical solutions.<br />Provide technical guidance and recommendations to senior management and project sponsors.<br />Manage priorities across multiple initiatives while balancing delivery, risk, and technical debt.<br />Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

People Leadership &amp; Mentoring Mentor and develop software engineers and technical specialists.<br />Promote a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, collaboration, and innovation.<br />Support recruitment activities including technical assessments and interviews.<br />Foster knowledge sharing and engineering best practices across teams.

Governance, Risk &amp; Controls Ensure solutions comply with security, data governance, regulatory, and operational risk requirements.<br />Support audit, compliance, and resiliency initiatives.<br />Implement appropriate monitoring, logging, and operational support frameworks.<br />Drive adoption of CI/CD, automated testing, and DevOps practices across development teams.

Required Skills &amp; Experience Engineering &amp; Development Extensive experience developing enterprise applications using:

Python<br />C# / .NET Core / .NET 8+<br />Strong experience designing distributed systems, APIs, and service-oriented architecture.<br />Proven ability to lead technical delivery across multiple projects and teams.<br />Experience defining engineering standards, design patterns, and development best practices.

Database &amp; Data Engineering Strong experience with SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and enterprise database platforms.<br />Expertise in:

Data modelling (OLTP, OLAP, dimensional models)<br />Query optimization and performance tuning<br />Database scalability and resilience<br />Data governance and quality management<br />Experience delivering large-scale ETL/ELT solutions and enterprise data pipelines.<br />Experience with event-driven and messaging architectures.

Data Platforms &amp; Cloud Technologies Hands-on experience with: Azure Data Lake<br />Databricks<br />Snowflake<br />Delta Lake<br />Azure Synapse Analytics / Microsoft Fabric<br />Spark / PySparkStrong understanding of:

Data Lake and Lakehouse architecture<br />Hybrid cloud environments<br />Enterprise integration patterns<br />Modern data formats including Parquet, Avro, and ORC DevOps &amp; Platform Engineering Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.<br />Experience with infrastructure automation and environment management.<br />Familiarity with:

Docker<br />Kubernetes<br />Azure DevOps<br />Git-based development workflows Preferred Qualifications Experience leading technology initiatives within Financial Services, Capital Markets, Investment Banking, or Corporate Banking environments.<br />Experience delivering cloud migration and platform modernization programs.<br />Knowledge of data governance frameworks and regulatory requirements.<br />Familiarity with real-time streaming platforms such as Kafka and Azure Event Hub.<br />Understanding machine learning and advanced analytics platforms.<br />Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline.<br />Industry certifications in Azure, Data Engineering, Architecture, or Software Engineering.
