Job Description

We're hiring a Project Engineer to support the successful execution of commercial electrical construction projects for a leading electrical contractor serving the Detroit area. Working alongside Project Managers, Superintendents, and field teams, you'll help coordinate projects from preconstruction through closeout while ensuring schedules, budgets, quality standards, and client expectations are met.

This role is ideal for someone looking to build a long-term career in commercial electrical construction. You'll receive mentorship from experienced professionals and have a clear path toward Assistant Project Manager and Project Manager.

Projects include healthcare, higher education, industrial, institutional, and other complex commercial facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Project Managers with the planning, coordination, and execution of commercial electrical construction projects.
  • Prepare and manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, transmittals, procurement logs, and other project documentation.
  • Review electrical drawings, specifications, contracts, schedules, and scopes of work for accuracy and completeness.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, field personnel, subcontractors, suppliers, and general contractors.
  • Track material procurement, equipment deliveries, long-lead items, and project milestones.
  • Support project scheduling, budgeting, forecasting, cost tracking, billing, and financial reporting.
  • Attend project meetings, jobsite visits, and coordination meetings to monitor progress and help resolve project challenges.
  • Work closely with estimating and BIM/VDC teams to improve constructability and project coordination.
  • Maintain organized project records, meeting minutes, document control, and correspondence.
  • Assist with material takeoffs, procurement planning, commissioning, project logistics, and closeout documentation.
  • Help resolve scheduling, procurement, and field coordination issues to keep projects moving efficiently.
  • 2+ years of experience in commercial construction, project engineering, or electrical construction.
  • Experience working for a commercial electrical contractor or specialty subcontractor is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of commercial electrical systems, construction methods, installation practices, and field operations.
  • Familiarity with RFIs, submittals, change orders, procurement, scheduling, and construction documentation.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, contracts, and project schedules.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software such as Procore, Bluebeam, or similar platforms.
  • Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites throughout the Detroit metropolitan area.
  • Experience supporting healthcare, higher education, industrial, institutional, or other complex commercial projects is a plus.
