The role sits within an engineering team working across long-term water programmes, playing a key part in delivering high-quality mechanical design across a range of projects.
Why This Role Stands Out Step into a senior role with real design ownership<br />Work across clean and wastewater projects<br />Opportunity to support and guide junior team members<br />Exposure to full project lifecycle and supplier engagement<br />Strong pipeline of AMP work secured<br />Key Responsibilities Delivering mechanical design outputs in line with safety and quality requirements<br />Producing calculations, drawings, and technical documentation<br />Leading coordination with CAD technicians and supporting their development<br />Managing interfaces with subcontract design teams (including M&E)<br />Preparing scopes and reviewing third-party design outputs<br />Engaging with suppliers, reviewing tenders, and supporting equipment selection<br />Producing reports, specifications, and design investigations<br />Ensuring compliance with relevant standards and engineering practices<br />Managing design changes and ensuring accurate documentation<br />Supporting estimation and planning of design activities<br />Attending and presenting at technical and client meetings<br />Requirements Experience in mechanical design within the UK water sector<br />Exposure to both clean water and wastewater projects (infrastructure and non-infrastructure)<br />Experience with hydraulic design and associated calculations<br />Knowledge of programmes such as UMON or similar upgrade schemes<br />Understanding of construction methods and engineering drawing practices<br />Chartered Engineer status, or working towards chartership<br />Strong technical, communication, and problem-solving skills<br />Experience supporting or mentoring junior engineers and technicians<br />Degree, HND, or equivalent experience
