Job Description

Senior Technical Officer - Scientific Analytical Services Laboratory

Urban Utilities is seeking a senior member of the Technical Officer Pool responsible for providing timely analytical activity and throughput (chemical, physical and microbiological) under the technical guidance of an Analytical Chemist / Microbiologist. The role is part of the Customer & Innovation group, and involves data interpretation, quality management, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out a specified range of complex tests; interpret test data to verify specifications are met and/or identify remedial actions to ensure conformance.
  • Carry out a range of quality management activities, contributing to the identification and evaluation of current policies and business processes that are best practice.
  • Contribute to reviewing existing operations in own area of work and generate new ideas to assist in identifying continuous improvements.
  • Use product specifications to design test procedures and standards, identify shortcomings in compliance processes, systems and procedures, and develop ad hoc solutions to problems within an assigned unit or discipline.
  • Follow the organization's HS&E policies, procedures and mandatory instructions; identify and mitigate environmental risks and risks to the wellbeing of oneself and others.
Qualifications
  • Previous technical experience in chemistry and/or organics in a commercial laboratory environment.
  • Tertiary education in chemistry/science, or specialist working experience.
  • Customer focused mindset and ability to build meaningful customer relationships.
  • Strong collaboration skills, aligning objectives and achieving desired outcomes.
  • Growth mindset and experience leading quality management activities and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
