Full time, fixed term for two yearsExciting opportunity to be a Data Analyst with the University of Sydney Ancestry & Health Genomics Lab (Hayes Lab)Base Salary starting from $93,345 + 17% superannuationAbout the opportunityThe successful candidate should have an Honours or Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Science, Data Engineering or equivalent, and/or have a Bachelor's degree with substantial evidence of experience working within HPC environments and big data analytics, familiarity with bash commands, with preferential experience with using command-line interface bioinformatic tools.The successful candidate will join the University of Sydney Ancestry & Health Genomics Lab (Hayes Lab) working on uncovering the drivers of prostate cancer health disparities. Based within the 'state-of-the-art' Charles Perkins Centre, this hybrid international team is both generating and interrogating multi-omic data sources to address clinically relevant questions related to developing a globally inclusive system for prostate cancer care.The day-to-day tasks will involve running and maintaining the computational pipelines, data backup and security, while showing initiative for workflow improvements and integrative models. Providing data quality control, filtering, and preparation for downstream analysis. Running and managing computational resources both locally and for the larger consortium within the High Performance Computational (HPC) infrastructure. Run standard pipelines for variant calling, while working with all members of the Hayes Lab from Research Officers, Postdocs, international Fellows, and PhD students, as well as the staff and members of the Sydney Informatics Hub (SIH). The successful candidate will be responsible for releasing and managing data within the team core, managing computational resources and user access, reporting to the lab head, ensuring the highest level of data integrity, while resolving data issues and performing data analytics as directed.The successful candidate should have a passion for working with large data sources, have strong skills in problem-solving and computational literacy, be results-orientated while placing emphasis on attention to detail, efficiency in planning and deliverables. The candidate should be able to work both within a team environment and independently and be willing to spend two days a week in the office engaging with colleagues directly. The candidate should have a passion for working in an academic environment, which includes research focused on clinical impact.Your key responsibilities will be to:data management for the lab and consortiummanaging HPC computational access, KSU management and usagesubmitting of genomic data for publicationassist in data collection activities and ensure compliance with set guidelinessupport data extraction, transformation and preliminary visualisation activitiesengage in data analysis and assist in identifying patterns to support decision makingassist with data preparation for internal surveys and support external submission requirementsparticipate in data cleansing and verification processes to ensure data accuracyperform routine large-scale data processing for variant calling using established pipelinescoordinate with the team to produce quality reports, verify data accuracy within university systems and support compliance initiativescommunicate with a broad range of stakeholdersreport directly to the Lab and Consortia lead.About youbachelor's/honours/masters degree in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of relevant training and experienceexperience analysing and providing insights on complex quantitative and qualitative dataexperience working with large data sources and complex data across a large and diverse organisationexperience utilising analytics platforms and developing actionable recommendationsexperience working in the higher education sectorexperience in people management, including managing staff performance and developmentskills in data analysis, accuracy and attention to detail, organisation and time management, researchcomputer literacy, familiarity with bash commands, with preferential experience with using command-line interface bioinformatic toolsability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively in a team.Pre-employment checksYour employment is conditional upon the successful completion of all pre-employment or background checks required for the role in terms satisfactory to the University.
