Job Description

Position: Sales Engineer II - Cybersecurity & Managed Services
Position Type: Direct hire
Compensation: $120,000 plus commission
Location: Remote (U.S.) or hybrid (Tulsa, OK)

Job Summary:
Our client is seeking a Sales Engineer II to serve as the technical authority in sales conversations with customers — translating security and infrastructure requirements into the company solutions, proving those solutions in the customer''s own environment, and carrying the technical win from first discovery call through signed contract.
This is a customer-facing, revenue-aligned engineering role. You will be paired with company account executives as the technical half of the deal team, with primary responsibility for scoping, demonstrating, and validating our our products and services. Where a prospect needs proof rather than a pitch, you own the proof of concept.
The role sits at the intersection of sales and engineering. You are measured on technical credibility and on outcomes: opportunities won, proofs of concept that convert, and revenue delivered against target. You will also carry what you learn in the field back into the practice — informing service design, reference architectures, and how the company positions itself in the market.
Existing experience with Cortex XSIAM or comparable SIEM/XDR platforms is preferred; formal Palo Alto Networks and company solution training is provided and is mandatory.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Discovery & Solution Design

  • Partner with account executives on qualified opportunities as the lead technical resource.
  • Conduct discovery sessions to identify current-state architecture, gaps, and security operations requirements.
  • Design and scope solutions across:
    • Aegis MDR and customer SOC buildouts.
    • Cortex XSIAM, XSOAR, and the Palo Alto Networks security portfolio.
    • Endpoint, network, identity, cloud, and SaaS telemetry coverage.
  • Translate customer requirements into accurate bills of material, service scopes, and level-of-effort estimates.
  • Identify and qualify out poor-fit opportunities early to protect pipeline quality and engineering capacity.

Demonstrations & Proof of Concept

  • Deliver tailored technical demonstrations.
  • Own proof-of-concept engagements end to end:
  • Define success criteria with the customer in writing before work begins.
    • Stand up the environment, ingest customer telemetry, and validate detections.
    • Document results against the agreed criteria and present findings to technical and executive stakeholders.
    • Drive proofs of concept to a clear, documented decision — won or lost — rather than allowing them to stall.
  • Build and maintain reusable demo environments, datasets, and PoC playbooks to reduce time to value on each new engagement.

Sales Support & Deal Execution

  • Author the technical sections of proposals, statements of work, and RFP/RFI responses.
  • Respond to security questionnaires, architecture reviews, and customer technical due diligence.
  • Present to audiences from SOC analysts to CISOs, adjusting depth and framing to the room.
  • Support pricing and commercial discussions by defending scope, assumptions, and technical trade-offs.
  • Maintain accurate opportunity, activity, and PoC records in the CRM.

Customer Transition & Post-Sale Continuity

  • Hand off closed opportunities to delivery and the Aegis SOC with complete, accurate documentation of scope and commitments.
  • Remain available during onboarding to protect the customer experience and ensure what was sold is what is delivered.
  • Identify expansion and cross-sell opportunities within the installed base.
  • Support renewal conversations with evidence of realized outcomes.

Practice Enablement & Continuous Improvement

  • Feed field intelligence — competitive positioning, objections, feature gaps, pricing pressure — back to sales and engineering leadership.
  • Contribute to reference architectures, solution briefs, battle cards, and internal enablement material.
  • Standardize how the company scopes and demonstrates its services so results are repeatable across the team.
  • Maintain and grow vendor certifications and technical currency.

Qualifications & Experience
Required

  • 2–4 years in a sales engineering, solutions engineering, or presales role, or comparable hands-on security/infrastructure engineering experience with direct customer exposure.
  • Working knowledge of security operations concepts, including:
    • SOC architectures and workflows.
    • SIEM/XDR platforms and detection engineering fundamentals.
    • Security telemetry, logging pipelines, and data source integration.
  • Demonstrated ability to run a technical evaluation or proof of concept to a documented conclusion.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present to executive audiences.
  • Bachelor''s degree in a technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites as required (estimated 10-20%).

Preferred

  • Experience with Cortex XSIAM and/or Cortex XSOAR (Demisto).
  • Experience with other SIEM, XDR, or SOAR platforms (CrowdStrike, SentinelOne, Microsoft Sentinel, IBM QRadar, Splunk).
  • Background selling or delivering managed security services, MDR, or co-managed SOC offerings.
  • Scripting or automation skills (Python, PowerShell, Bash).
  • Cloud security and logging experience (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform).
  • Palo Alto Networks certifications (PCNSE, PCSAE) or equivalent security certifications.
  • Familiarity with compliance and regulatory frameworks (NIST CSF, CIS, HIPAA, PCI DSS, CMMC).

Performance Measures
Success in this role is measured against defined, quantitative outcomes reviewed quarterly:

  • Opportunities won on which the Sales Engineer was the assigned technical resource.
  • Proof-of-concept success rate — engagements meeting documented success criteria and converting to closed business.
  • Attainment against assigned annual revenue target.
  • Technical certification attainment and currency.
  • Quality of handoff to delivery, measured by post-sale scope accuracy and customer satisfaction.
