Job Description

At McLaren Racing, we’re not just here to try to take the chequered flag. We’re here to excite our fans,
inspire our people and deliver for our partners. And we’re also committed to evolving our sport, our
industry, and our technology, too.

As a Specialist, Manufacturing Engineer, you will join a skilled team delivering high-quality, end-to-end manufacturing solutions that contribute directly to performance on track. Rotating between the design office and machine shop, you will help turn complex designs into reliable, efficiently manufactured components at the pace demanded by Formula 1.

During the build season, you will influence design for manufacture decisions upstream, provide governance within the design function and support the manufacture of a new race car. You will also deliver manufacturing projects and engineering solutions for car components, wind tunnel components, pit equipment and heritage car parts.

What You'll Do

  • Embed design for manufacture best practice within scheming, concept and design reviews, supporting material selection, forecasting and early procurement decisions.
  • Produce manufacturing solutions including stage models and drawings, production routings, raw material requirements, tooling selections and directed inspection requirements.
  • Design robust tooling, fixturing and gauging that improves process reliability, supports right-first-time delivery and maximises lights-out machining capability.
  • Create efficient CNC programmes and set-up sheets, applying best practice in programming quality, workholding, cutter selection, process optimisation and standardisation.
  • Collaborate with Process Engineers, Machinists and wider stakeholders to resolve quality concerns, deliver corrective actions and implement improvements that reduce waste, control cost and support sustainable manufacture.

What You'll Bring

  • Strong manufacturing engineering experience, with practical knowledge of design for manufacture, production routings, cost control and directed inspection.
  • Experience of offline programming, setting and operating 3, 4 and 5-axis multi-tasking machining centres, supported by confident use of relevant CAD/CAM systems.
  • Knowledge of tool management, MRP systems and the delivery of manufacturing work packages for complex components within demanding and competing priorities.
  • Experience of resolving quality concerns using structured problem-solving tools such as 8D, 5 Why and fishbone analysis, alongside a track record of supporting effective change and continuous improvement.
  • An NVQ Level 4 or 5, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification is preferred, combined with strong communication, stakeholder engagement and project delivery skills.

Personal Attributes

  • A collaborative team player who builds trust, shares accountability and contributes to the overall goal.
  • Self-motivated and delivery focused, with the confidence and resilience to remain effective under pressure.
  • Curious and solutions oriented, taking time to understand challenges before providing practical, considered resolutions.
  • Committed to continuous improvement, high standards and finding better ways to deliver performance.
  • Clear and constructive in communication, acting with integrity and providing effective feedback to colleagues and stakeholders.

Success in racing comes from bringing together talented people with different skills, perspectives and experiences. We're committed to building an inclusive environment where everyone feels supported and empowered to deliver their best work.

Every role has the potential to drive high performance. You'll be part of a team united by a shared ambition to push boundaries and embody our racing mindset. We invest in our people through opportunities to develop and grow, creating an environment where individuals and teams can thrive.

Alongside a range of wellbeing initiatives and development opportunities, we're committed to helping you build a rewarding career and make your mark at McLaren Racing.
