We are looking for an experienced SharePoint Online Architect/ECM Strategist to assess an enterprise Microsoft 365 environment and define a scalable strategy for SharePoint governance, information architecture, content management, security, lifecycle management, and records retention.

This is primarily a strategy, architecture, and governance role, rather than a SharePoint administration/support position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess existing SharePoint Team sites, content structures, ownership, permissions, usage, and governance risks.
  • Define enterprise SharePoint governance standards covering site creation, naming, ownership, access, lifecycle, archival, and decommissioning.
  • Design target SharePoint architecture using Hub Sites, Team Sites, Communication Sites, templates, and provisioning standards.
  • Develop Information Architecture covering taxonomy, metadata, Managed Term Store, content types, navigation, and search.
  • Define ECM strategy for content classification, versioning, retention, records management, archiving, and disposition.
  • Establish security and permission models using Microsoft Entra ID, least-privilege principles, sensitivity labels, and data protection.
  • Define integration patterns across SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, Microsoft Purview, and Power Platform.
  • Develop an IT4IT-aligned operating model, governance framework, service value streams, KPIs, and capability roadmap.
  • Create architecture standards, governance policies, reference architectures, implementation roadmaps, and site-owner playbooks.
  • Lead workshops and collaborate with business, IT, security, compliance, records management, and content-owner stakeholders.

Required Skills

  • Strong hands-on SharePoint Online and Microsoft 365 architecture experience.
  • Proven experience implementing SharePoint governance across large enterprise environments and multiple business units.
  • Strong ECM / Enterprise Content Management strategy and operating model experience.
  • Expertise in Information Architecture, including taxonomy, metadata, Managed Term Store, content types, site columns, navigation, and search.
  • Experience with Hub Sites, Team Sites, Communication Sites, templates, and governed provisioning.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, Microsoft Purview, Power Platform, and Microsoft Entra ID.
  • Experience with content lifecycle, retention, records management, archiving, and disposition.
  • Ability to develop IT4IT strategy, governance models, service value streams, KPIs, and capability roadmaps.
  • Strong architecture documentation, stakeholder management, workshop facilitation, and executive communication skills.

Preferred

  • 10+ years in SharePoint, ECM, Microsoft 365 architecture, content services, or related enterprise content roles.
  • Experience leading SharePoint governance or modernization programs across multiple business units.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft 365 compliance, information protection, retention, and DLP.
  • Experience with legacy content migration and content-mapping strategies.
  • Familiarity with IT4IT, ITIL, COBIT, TOGAF, or similar frameworks.
  • Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Azure, Information Governance, or Enterprise Architecture certifications are a plus.

Key Deliverables

  • Current-state SharePoint assessment and governance risk analysis.
  • Target SharePoint architecture and standards.
  • Enterprise SharePoint governance framework.
  • ECM and Information Architecture strategy.
  • IT4IT-aligned service operating model and roadmap.
  • Implementation and remediation roadmap.
  • Practical governance playbook for site/content owners and support teams.
