Our government technology client is seeking an experienced Data Center Project Manager to lead a large-scale infrastructure resiliency initiative focused on modernizing and securing critical technology operations. This multi-year effort centers on relocating essential compute, storage, and network infrastructure from aging facilities to a modern, resilient hosting environment designed to improve long-term reliability, security, and disaster recovery capabilities.
The ideal candidate will bring proven experience managing enterprise data center migration projects and the ability to coordinate technical teams, business stakeholders, executive leadership, and third-party vendors throughout the full project lifecycle.
Project Overview
This role will be responsible for overseeing a major infrastructure modernization project involving the relocation of mission-critical technology systems to a new hosting facility. The Project Manager will serve as the central point of coordination across infrastructure, networking, security, application support, and vendor teams to ensure successful planning, testing, migration, and operational readiness.
The project requires strong governance, risk management, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills to support a seamless transition while minimizing operational disruption.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning and execution of a large-scale data center migration initiative
- Develop and maintain the master project schedule, work breakdown structure (WBS), project roadmap, and governance processes
- Manage project scope, timelines, risks, issues, dependencies, and budget considerations
- Coordinate cross-functional teams including infrastructure, networking, security, application support, and executive stakeholders
- Oversee facility readiness efforts including power, cooling, fire suppression, physical security, and operational requirements
- Coordinate network connectivity, telecommunications carrier integrations, and infrastructure cutover activities
- Manage structured infrastructure and application testing to ensure successful migration and operational stability
- Facilitate communication between leadership teams, technical teams, vendors, and business stakeholders
- Oversee vendor performance, deliverables, and compliance with project and security requirements
- Maintain project documentation and ensure knowledge transfer to internal teams following project completion
- Apply formal risk, issue, change management, and project governance methodologies

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience
- 5+ years of IT project management experience
- Direct experience leading enterprise-scale data center migration projects from planning through implementation
- Experience managing complex infrastructure projects involving multiple stakeholders and vendors
- Strong communication and executive stakeholder management skills
- Experience facilitating collaboration across technical and business teams
- Strong organizational, documentation, and leadership capabilities
- Experience with Microsoft Project, SharePoint, and project reporting tools
- Ability to manage risks, dependencies, and competing priorities within large-scale initiatives
Preferred Qualifications
- PMP certification
- Experience working within government or public-sector technology environments
- Familiarity with data center operations including power, cooling, facilities management, and physical security
- Experience coordinating network carrier integrations and infrastructure cutovers
- Knowledge of security, compliance, and governance requirements within enterprise environments
- Experience managing structured testing, migration validation, and operational readiness activities
Work Environment
- 12-month contract opportunity
- Primarily remote work environment
- Standard business hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM CST
- Preference for candidates located in South Dakota with the ability to visit project locations as needed
- Opportunity for occasional onsite engagement with infrastructure teams and data center facilities
- Two-step interview process consisting of leadership and team interviews

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $65.00 - $80.00/hr.
