The successful candidate will develop application, API, and database capabilities using Node.js/TypeScript, modern front-end technologies, and SQL Server or Azure SQL. This is a senior individual-contributor role, not a people-management position. You will write and review code, guide technical implementation decisions, and work with cloud, cybersecurity, QA, and requirements professionals to deliver secure, maintainable, production-ready applications. Location: Candidates must live in the Washington, DC, metropolitan region and be available to work at a customer site in Maryland as needed. Security clearance: An active TS/SCI clearance is required. Responsibilities
Design, develop, test, and maintain secure full-stack enterprise applications. Build server-side application logic, REST APIs, integrations, and data-access components. Develop modern, accessible web-based user experiences. Modernize existing applications and support migrations to SQL Server or Azure SQL. Design and maintain relational data models, database schemas, queries, and migrations. Implement authentication, authorization, role-based access control, and other secure-development patterns. Write and review code for quality, security, performance, and maintainability. Review AI-assisted code using the same engineering and security standards applied to developer-written code. Develop automated unit and integration tests. Containerize applications and support deployment through established CI/CD pipelines. Work with cloud and cybersecurity engineers to resolve application-security findings. Collaborate with QA, requirements, and Government stakeholders throughout development, testing, and deployment. Provide technical guidance to other developers and communicate implementation decisions, risks, and recommendations. *** Required Qualifications ***
Five or more years of hands-on software-development experience. Strong backend-development experience using Node.js, TypeScript, Express, or a comparable modern framework. Experience developing modern web applications using JavaScript or TypeScript and a contemporary front-end framework. Experience designing and implementing REST APIs, integrations, business logic, and data-access components. Strong SQL and relational data-modeling skills. Experience with SQL Server, Azure SQL, PostgreSQL, or another enterprise relational database. Working knowledge of authentication, authorization, role-based access control, and secure coding practices. Experience writing automated tests, reviewing code, and troubleshooting complex application issues. Familiarity with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-based application deployment. Ability to lead technical implementation while remaining a hands-on developer. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with technical teams and Government stakeholders. Active TS/SCI clearance and ability to maintain it throughout employment. Ability to meet applicable DoD 8140 qualification requirements. *** Preferred Qualifications *** Experience with Azure Government, Azure Commercial, GCC High, or another regulated cloud environment. Experience modernizing legacy applications or migrating applications to a networked relational database. Familiarity with CAC/PIV authentication, DoD PKI, or certificate-based authentication. Experience supporting applications subject to RMF, DISA STIG, OWASP, or similar security requirements. Familiarity with Section 508 or WCAG accessibility standards. Experience using Azure services such as App Service, Azure SQL, Key Vault, managed identity, or Azure Kubernetes Service. Experience using AI-assisted development tools with disciplined code review and testing. Relevant Microsoft Azure, software-development, cybersecurity, or DoD 8140 certifications. HyerTek offers a comprehensive benefits package, including:
