Job Description 1: Wireless Engineer

Location : Los Angeles CA

Overview

Seeking a Wireless Engineer to execute an onsite wireless validation and re-design survey for a large enterprise office campus. This is a hands-on, field-based role focused on RF data collection, spectrum analysis, and documentation to support access point optimization recommendations.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct onsite wireless validation surveys across a 450,000 sq ft office environment.

Perform RF measurements and evaluate network performance against best-practice thresholds (signal strength -67 dBm, SNR 20 dB).

Execute wireless site surveys and spectrum analysis using Ekahau Site Survey software.

Conduct Layer 1 spectrum analysis across 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands, identifying both 802.11 and non-802.11 interference sources (microwaves, Bluetooth, wireless cameras, cordless phones, competing Wi-Fi networks).

Generate signal strength and signal-to-noise ratio heat maps for all applicable wireless bands.

Document current access point coverage (primary and secondary AP coverage) and produce AP location diagrams.

Identify coverage gaps and compile data to support recommended AP moves, adds, and changes.

Compile findings into a formal Wireless Site Survey Report for client delivery.

Coordinate on-the-ground logistics with the IBM Project Manager and client Technical Contacts, including facility access and escort requirements.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Hands-on experience with Ekahau Site Survey or equivalent RF site survey tools.

Strong working knowledge of 802.11 wireless standards and RF fundamentals (signal strength, SNR, channel/spectrum interference).

Experience conducting spectrum analysis across 2.4/5/6 GHz bands.

Ability to interpret heat maps and translate RF data into actionable coverage recommendations.

Comfortable working independently onsite in a large commercial office environment.

Strong documentation skills; able to produce clear, client-ready survey reports.

Familiarity with enterprise Wi-Fi hardware and AP deployment practices.

Nice to Have

CWNA/CWDP (Certified Wireless Network Administrator/Design Professional) certification.

Prior experience on large-scale (300K+ sq ft) commercial wireless surveys.

Experience working within a formal client change-control/SOW-based delivery model.
