Contract Technical Lead / Engineering Manager

Engineering Lead / Software Development Manager Remote / Hybrid working available<br />Inside IR35<br />6 month contract + option to go permanent or extend We are looking for an experienced Engineering Lead / Software Development Manager to join a growing technology team. This role combines hands-on software engineering with team leadership, technical direction and delivery ownership. You will lead and support a team of developers, helping to improve engineering practices, remove technical blockers and ensure high-quality delivery of software solutions. You will work closely with stakeholders across the business to shape priorities, manage technical decisions and deliver projects that support business objectives.

Key responsibilities:

Lead, mentor and support a team of software engineers, encouraging best practice and continuous improvement.<br />Remain hands-on with software development, contributing to coding, technical reviews and solution design.<br />Provide technical leadership across applications, platforms and engineering practices.<br />Support delivery of projects from concept through to implementation, managing priorities, risks and dependencies.<br />Work closely with product owners, business stakeholders and technical teams to translate requirements into effective solutions.<br />Improve development processes, tooling and engineering standards.<br />Champion Agile ways of working and support effective team collaboration.<br />Essential experience: Proven experience leading or managing software engineering teams.<br />Strong hands-on development experience with C# / .NET.<br />Experience with modern cloud technologies, ideally Azure.<br />Understanding of software architecture, APIs and scalable systems.<br />Experience delivering projects within Agile environments.<br />Strong communication skills with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders.<br />Desirable experience: CI/CD and DevOps practices.<br />Microservices or distributed systems.<br />System integration experience.<br />Mentoring developers and supporting engineering career development.<br />This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced technical leader who enjoys balancing people leadership with hands-on engineering and making a genuine impact on technology delivery.
