Your New Role and ResponsibilitiesWe are seeking a Database Engineer to join our Digital Modernisation Division, working in complex, multi vendor technology environments within a supportive and collaborative team. This is a 9 month maximum tenure contract role.
This role requires strong technical expertise in Microsoft SQL engineering, combined with a thoughtful approach to problem solving, clear communication, and a genuine passion for continuous learning. You'll play a meaningful role in supporting database administration, optimisation, and automation initiatives, helping to deliver reliable and scalable data platforms.
Key Responsibilities- Design, develop, and maintain automated solutions supporting database operations including provisioning, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance
- Administer Microsoft SQL Server environments to ensure availability, performance, security, and integrity of enterprise data platforms
- Monitor and optimise database performance through query tuning, indexing strategies, and capacity planning
- Implement automation within CI/CD pipelines to enable consistent and repeatable database deployments
- Collaborate across engineering, data, and infrastructure teams to deliver integrated, reliable, and secure database solutions
- Experience working with Microsoft SQL Server, including database administration, query development, and performance optimisation
- Strong SQL expertise, with the ability to write, troubleshoot, and optimise queries, stored procedures, and data processes
- Solid understanding of database fundamentals such as data modelling, indexing, backup/recovery, and high availability
- Experience with automation and scripting (e.g. PowerShell, Python, or Bash), including exposure to CI/CD and version control practices
- Collaborative mindset with strong analytical and problem solving skills across database and automation environments
This role does require the successful applicant to be an Australian Citizen and be able to gain and maintain a Baseline level security clearance.
