Network Engineer (eDV) | £50,000-£75,000



About the Role:

We're partnering with an established organisation to hire a Network Engineer to join their growing infrastructure team. This is an excellent opportunity for networking professionals at varying levels of experience to work across modern enterprise environments, supporting the design, implementation, and optimisation of critical network infrastructure.

You'll play a key role in ensuring the availability, performance, and security of enterprise networking services while working alongside infrastructure, security, and platform engineering teams. The role offers exposure to a broad range of technologies including routing, switching, network security, virtualisation, automation, and cloud-connected environments.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the design, implementation, and maintenance of LAN, WAN, and data centre network infrastructure.

  • Monitor network performance and availability, investigating and resolving network incidents and faults.

  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot switches, routers, firewalls, and associated networking equipment.

  • Assist with network upgrades, migrations, and infrastructure transformation projects.

  • Support network security technologies including firewalls, VPNs, access control policies, and secure remote connectivity.

  • Maintain network documentation, diagrams, standards, and operational procedures.

  • Assist with capacity planning, performance tuning, resilience improvements, and high availability initiatives.

  • Support virtualised networking and software-defined networking environments where applicable.

  • Contribute to network automation and Infrastructure as Code initiatives using modern automation tools.

  • Work collaboratively with infrastructure, security, and application teams to deliver reliable and secure networking services.

  • For more experienced engineers, provide technical leadership, mentor junior team members, and contribute to network architecture and strategic projects.



About You:

  • Previous experience in a Network Engineer, Infrastructure Engineer, or Network Support role within an enterprise environment.

  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, and network troubleshooting.

  • Experience supporting enterprise network infrastructure using technologies from vendors such as Cisco, Juniper, Arista, HPE, or Fortinet.

  • Good understanding of network security principles, firewalls, VPN technologies, and secure network design.

  • Experience supporting and troubleshooting production network environments.

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • A proactive mindset with a genuine desire to learn and develop technical expertise.

Desirable:

  • Experience with routing protocols such as OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, or MPLS.

  • Experience supporting firewall platforms and VPN solutions.

  • Knowledge of enterprise wireless networking technologies.

  • Exposure to virtualisation platforms including VMware ESXi, Hyper-V, KVM, or Proxmox.

  • Experience with cloud networking concepts across AWS, Azure, or hybrid environments.

  • Familiarity with automation tools such as Ansible, Python, Terraform, or similar technologies.

  • Experience using network monitoring platforms such as SolarWinds, Zabbix, PRTG, LibreNMS, or equivalent.

  • Understanding of Software Defined Networking (SDN) and modern data centre networking technologies.
