Senior Data Center Advisor (Part-Time Consultant)
Overview
Our client is launching an innovative, next-generation data center business focused on high-density AI and HPC (High Performance Computing) environments. They are seeking an experienced Senior Data Center Advisor to serve as a strategic consultant during an initial research and development phase.
This is a unique opportunity for a seasoned data center operations leader to help shape operational strategy, evaluate infrastructure designs, and provide subject matter expertise for a cutting-edge data center platform.

Our client is launching an innovative, next-generation data center business focused on high-density AI and HPC (High Performance Computing) environments. They are seeking an experienced Senior Data Center Advisor to serve as a strategic consultant during an initial research and development phase.
This is a unique opportunity for a seasoned data center operations leader to help shape operational strategy, evaluate infrastructure designs, and provide subject matter expertise for a cutting-edge data center platform.
Engagement Details
- Part-time consulting engagement
- Approximately 10 hours per week
- Initial 3-month contract
- Primarily remote
- Occasional travel may be required for site evaluations and due diligence activities
- Potential opportunity to transition into a full-time leadership role depending on project outcomes and business expansion plans
- Advise leadership on data center operations and maintenance (O&M) strategy
- Develop recommendations for service delivery and operational readiness
- Review data center facility designs and plans from an operational perspective
- Assist in creating staffing models, shift schedules, and maintenance programs
- Support development of operating expense (OPEX) estimates and budgets
- Provide guidance on vendor selection and management
- Help negotiate long-term service agreements with equipment, cooling, and electrical vendors
- Advise on customer-facing service level agreements (SLAs)
- Participate in technical discussions with prospective customers and stakeholders
- Provide expertise throughout the data center lifecycle including planning, construction, commissioning, and operations
The successful candidate will bring a combination of operational leadership and hands-on data center expertise.
Required Experience
- Experience managing critical data center facilities
- Strong background in data center operations and maintenance
- Experience supporting or leading data center commissioning activities
- Knowledge of power, cooling, MEP, and critical infrastructure systems
- Experience developing operational processes, staffing models, and maintenance programs
- Ability to advise executive leadership and communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience managing multiple data center facilities or portfolios
- End-to-end lifecycle experience including:
- Planning
- Design review
- Construction
- Commissioning
- Operations
- Experience supporting AI-focused, HPC, or next-generation data center deployments
- Exposure to direct liquid cooling or advanced cooling technologies
- Background working with hyperscalers or large-scale colocation providers
- Experience with organizations such as:
- Microsoft
- Meta
- Equinix
- QTS
- Aligned
- CoreWeave
- Similar data center infrastructure providers
- Former Navy Nuclear, Navy Engineering, or military operations background
- Maritime industry experience is a plus
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Consulting mindset with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced R&D environment
- Comfortable partnering directly with executives, engineers, and project teams
