Job Title: Data Engineer (BigQuery / Data Pipelines)

Location: Remote/Denver

Role Overview

We are looking for a strong Data Engineer with a solid engineering foundation and hands‑on experience in building data pipelines, optimizing BigQuery environments, and setting up scalable cloud data infrastructure. The consultant will support a healthcare client in modernizing and optimizing their data ecosystem for performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain end‑to‑end data pipelines using BigQuery and cloud-native tools.
  • Set up and optimize data infrastructure, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
  • Implement data quality, validation, and monitoring frameworks.
  • Work closely with analytics, product, and engineering teams to support data-driven initiatives.
  • Optimize BigQuery queries, storage, partitioning, clustering, and cost management.
  • Develop reusable components, automation scripts, and CI/CD workflows for data operations.
  • Troubleshoot pipeline issues and ensure smooth data flow across systems.
  • Support healthcare-specific compliance and data governance requirements.

Required Skills

  • 6-7 of hands-on experience as a Data Engineer.
  • Strong experience in cloud.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals (data structures, distributed systems, cloud architecture).
  • Expertise in BigQuery, SQL performance tuning, and data modeling.
  • Experience building ETL/ELT pipelines using Python, Airflow, or similar tools.
  • Solid understanding of cloud infrastructure (Google Cloud Platform preferred).
  • Experience with data optimization, partitioning, clustering, and cost control.
  • Familiarity with healthcare data standards (HIPAA, PHI handling) is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently in a remote setup.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience with Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, or DevOps practices.
  • Exposure to FHIR, HL7, or other healthcare data formats.
  • Knowledge of Looker, dbt, or other analytics engineering tools.
