Who are we?

Smiths (Gloucester) Ltd is a family run business owned and run by the Smith family since 1982. Smiths has grown from a single owner-operated plant hire company to a multifaceted group with family values still firmly at the heart of each project undertaken. With depots in Avonmouth, Cardiff, Gloucester, Stonehouse and Tewkesbury we operate predominately across the South-West of England. We specialise in Construction, Waste Management, Plant Hire, Demolition and Transport operations.

Join our team as a Plant Operator and play a key role in delivering projects safely, efficiently and to the highest standards. We're looking for an experienced and safety-conscious individual with experience operating plant and machinery within a construction or quarrying environment.

What you'll be doing:
  • Operating a variety of plant and equipment in line with your qualifications and competency level.

  • Carrying out daily safety checks and reporting any defects or maintenance requirements.

  • Performing routine cleaning, greasing and basic maintenance of plant and machinery.

  • Working closely with site supervisors to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and on schedule.

  • Following all site health, safety and environmental procedures.

  • Recording plant inspections, maintenance checks and timesheets accurately.

  • Reporting accidents, incidents, near misses and equipment faults promptly.

  • Wearing and maintaining the appropriate PPE at all times.

What we're looking for:
  • Experience operating construction plant and equipment.

  • A strong commitment to health and safety.

  • Ability to work as part of a team and follow instructions effectively.

  • Good communication skills and attention to detail.

  • Reliable, hardworking and proactive approach to work.
