The roleAs a Mechanical Engineer, you’ll join the Nuclear Steam Raising Plant Interface Equipment Team within our Devonport Engineering business.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on innovative engineering solutions that support the maintenance, refit and operational readiness of Royal Navy submarines. Day-to-day, you’ll play a key role in the design and development of temporary mechanical equipment that interfaces with submarine reactor plant fluid systems. Working within a highly regulated environment, you'll contribute to projects that have a direct impact on national defence while developing your technical expertise across the full engineering lifecycle.

Producing engineering designs, technical documentation and assessments to support complex engineering projectsDeveloping mechanical engineering solutions throughout the design lifecycle, from concept through to implementationProviding technical advice and guidance to ensure compliance with engineering standards, legislation and regulatory requirementsSupporting design reviews, hazard studies and engineering analysis activitiesCollaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver high-quality outputs to programme schedules and budgetsThis role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements.

Essential experience of the Mechanical EngineerUnderstanding of mechanical engineering principles, particularly within fluid systems, pressure systems or materials engineeringKnowledge of engineering design lifecycles and associated design processesAwareness of engineering legislation, standards and regulatory requirements within a regulated industryExperience producing technical engineering deliverables and supporting engineering design activitiesStrong problem-solving, communication and organisational skillsQualifications for the Mechanical EngineerEssential:HNC or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering disciplineDesirable:Further engineering qualifications or progress towards professional registrationExperience with computer-aided design, engineering analysis or fluid systems designSecurity ClearanceThe successful candidate must be a sole UK National who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) / Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) / Developed Vetting (DV) / Counter Terrorist Check (CTC) security clearance for this role.
